OK, I am finally looking to get my Skaven fix, this will be an alternative army to my Ogre Kingdoms I've been playing for a long time before the new book arrived. I have created two lists for 2400pts which is the level I intend to be playing at. They are quite different, what I would like to know is not only which one would be the most effective on the table but which one would be the most fun to play with and against. I'm not too bothered about optimum choices or advice to take one unit out and replace with another although I will take note. I imagine that one of these two armies will be the one that I end up collecting in bits and pieces over the next 6+ months to make sure I can get it all painted before putting it on the table (something I have failed to do with my Ogres). If it helps these are both all comers lists and my opponents are likely to be, Lizardmen, Dwarfs, Wood Elves, Vampire Counts and maybe Dark Elves and Tomb Kings. List 1 Grey Seer Earthing Rod, Skalm, Screaming Bell Chieftain BSB, Shield, Stormbanner Warlock Engineer Doomrocket Warlock Engineer Lvl 1, Warp Energy Condensor, Dispel Scroll 40 Skavenslaves Musician, Shields 40 Skavenslaves Musician, Shields 40 Skavenslaves Musician, Shields 30 Clanrats Musician and Standard Bearer, Plague Wind Mortar 30 Clanrats Musician and Standard Bearer, Warp Fire Thrower 30 Plague Monks Musician and Standard Bearer 5 Gutter Runners Slings, Poisoned Attacks 5 Gutter Runners Slings, Poisoned Attacks Hell Pit Abomination Warpstone Spikes Doomwheel Warp Lightning Cannon Lots of models in that list which aims for the 1 in 10pts figure, although I am not sure if there is enough punch to it. List 2 Warlord War Litter, Shield, Sword of Swift Slaying, Dragon Helm, Other Trickster's Shard, Rival Hide Talisman Grey Seer Earthing Rod, Talisman of Preservation, Plague Priest Level 2, Additional Hand Weapon, Iron Curse Icon, Dispel Scroll, Plague Furnace Chieftain Battle Standard Bearer, Stormbanner Warplock Engineer Doomrocket Warplock Engineer Level 1, Warp Energy Condensor 40 Skavenslaves Musician and Shields 40 Skavenslaves Musician and Shields 30 Clanrats Shields, Musician and Standard Bearer, Plague Wind Mortar 30 Clanrats Shields, Musician and Standard Bearer, Warp Fire Thrower 30 Plague Monks Full Command, Plague Banner 5 Gutter Runners Slings, Poisoned Attacks 5 Gutter Runners Slings, Poisoned Attacks Doomwheel War Lightning Cannon This to my untrained eye looks more fun but is lacking in numbers. The Plague Monks have full command to stop the Plague Priest getting challenged. The Grey Seer gets the high ward due to the fact in this list he has no Bell to hide in. *rereads list again, rereads second list again* you basically just presented both the Castle list (list 1) and the "standard" skaven list both are excellent lists and will serve you well, I personally prefer list one (castle) but list 2 is just as viable. |
