Hi Guys, Was just wondering on whether it is more beneficial to field many small 25 man units of slaves as oppose to 2 or 3 larger units 50 upward units? Any thoughts or contributions would be greatly appreciated!! Am playing high elves in a couple of days at 2000pts and want to know which will be tactically more sound. At moment i am fielding Hellpit x 1 Plagueclaw catapult x 2 30 clanrats x 3 3 x rattling gun 25 slaves x 5 (with engineers) Greyseer 3 x engineers with doomrockets 10 x Nightrunner with poised and slings Not 100% sure what he is taking but he has mentioned he is def taking teclis! Just wondering if my slave layout is the best to take down the point ear things! Edited by Council13, 6th October 2011 - 08:58 PM.

change them to two units of 35 and one unit of 30. Use the units of 35 to hold up calvary or big units of swordmasters. Use the smaller for holding up low damage output units. In my opinion units of 25 wont get steadfast against dragon princes or sword masters because too many of them will die in the first rounds of combat or two units of 40 and one of 20

So min unit size 35 then? Are there any benefits to smaller Skaven slaves units or is it always best to go as big as possible? Is there such a thing as THE optimum size?? Also any ideas against teclis??

Another Teclis problem? I'm sick of those... There are many answers to him but seriously ask your opponent why he uses Teclis because I begin to wonder how many people don't have any origionality while playing High Elves. It's like they play them just because they know people have problems against Teclis. Just get something to that Teclis model in close combat and you should be able to kill him fairly easily. Sorry about the little rant, I just can't stand how much people don't care about having fun and winning with style. |

blast teclis's unit apart and try to charge him asap. Gutter runners should chew him up large units are better at soaking damage and holding enemy units for longer, where as smaller units of slaves are great for accompanying doomwheels or as small back up units. So having one small unit can be quite beneficial

I play HE and sometimes I use Teclis just for fun. I don't like how OP he can be, but I really enjoy using him and I am probably one of the few people that don't try to whore out his strengths and build an army around it. There are a lot of other things that can be said about some Skaven builds too... |

Empire cavalry or chaos knights, yes. But Swordmasters will eat a units of 35 slaves in no time. If the swordmaster unit is 25 strong (5x5) then it will get 16 attacks when it charges the slaves. re-rolling on 3s will make for 14-15 hits, wounding on 2s for 11-14 dead, maybe a few less with a parry. That gives you at most 1 round of steadfast, and maybe not even that. If you want to hold a unit that puts out that kind of damage you need 40+ as a minimum, and 50+ is advisable. |

With clanrats you get light armour and shield, which gives an armour save (6+ i think, since swordmasters are S4 ) against the swordmasters), and with the shield you also get a parry save. So you should be able to save some. And now back to topic... why nag about someone using a specific build? If someone does that, then that makes him weaker, since you can anticipate in advance on what he'll do. Which gives you plenty of time to rethink your army build and strategy. I have guys in my warhammer shop, who always use the same playing style. Which is fine by me, cause i just adapt and counter. So if someone uses Tetlic , then hey...just adapt and counter. I personally fear the swordmasters more then that character. (well, i dont fear them...hehe, that would be stupid, since Highelfs are inferior to me. But you know...I send in lots of magic and long ranged weapons to beat them. Cant be bothered to slay them myself, can i?) |

Who cares they are S5? They negate the normal shield bonus ok but you STILL get a 6+ parry against S5. |

I was just saying because koffietje was wrong in stating that swordmasters were S4 and saying we could get a 6+ armour save. Yes we still do get a 6+ parry
