Lab rat hard at work
A lot of guys in my area are getting away from GW and are starting to play Warmachine from privateer press. Have you guys played it? What do you think? Should I start sacrificing the $$$ spent on warhammer to supliment the new phase?

Why U do dis?!
If you have the playerbase, definately... Warmachine is a much more polished game than either warhammers, with the rules reading much more clearly, and a rich background.

Plus, the models are excellent.
I am looking to get a hold of the following items, as many as possible:
The new style skulls from numerous kits (less heroic scale skulls)
Any bits of skeletons (both older skeletons and new vc skeletons)
Toppers from stormvermin banners (grey seer type skulls)

I have lots of fantasy and 40k bits to trade, including:
Imperial guard special and heavy weapons
Daemonette bits
Bits from land raiders, and chaos space marines
clanrat arm weapons
hellpit arms
Ghoul and zombie bodyparts
older metal Chaos marines

Message me if you can help.

Yes. I switched over a few years back and never regretted the switch. I have yet to talk to anyone who did.

In essence, the company has better customer support, more interaction with the community (official forums, letting every player betatest rules), more ORIGINAL background (not as well-fleshed out as fantasy, though), very good models, and rules that are much more dynamic than Warhammer.

Warmahordes games don't take as long generally, can be done with far fewer models (making the game cheaper), and have more variety in the type of game played. With Warhammer I generally found that all games turned into pretty much the same one. I have not found that to be true with Hordes. There are far fewer stalemate situations, things die far more quickly, and (personally I think) the game requires more thought. It is much more like chess than Warhammer, and you get better stories out of it, as the game is more dramatic.

I really see no reason not to switch. I love my Circle to death.

Suddenly alot of the guys at my place start to talk about that too. Funny thing that it is mostly 40k players.

Is this becoming a trend?

I'm not converting over to it because I am not that impressed with it. It is too much powergaming for me.

Same here on all counts Scarr, and its doesn't really replace Warhammer either, it is a lot smaller than warhammer is so it doesn't get the same feel as warhammer does. That and I don't have the money to afford both at the moment.

Playing skaven to minimize randomness is like going to prom with your sister, you can do it if you really want, but in the end everyone will still laugh even if you do get lucky.

I always take at least one Warpfire Thrower. You can't always rely on your opponent to do massive damage to your troops. Sometimes, you just have to do a job yourself.

I had never heard about this, I will be sure to check it out though.... B)

Edit: I just finished looking at it, like most of these games (see mantic) it is a risk starting it since the community here doesn't know about it...

I have heard of it but after all the other supposed GOOD games systems that have been tried vs games workshop over the years I will not be spending anything on it till everyone I know plays it. And that is unlikely to happen.

In contrast to Mork, I have played a half dozen games and can't stand it.

Agreed, the company culture for Privateer Press is a lot different. A lot more positive. And while the background is original, I suppose, it just doesn't seem to have the hooks I am interested in.

As for game length, as I have experienced it, it totally depends on both the players. Knowledge of rules, decision making abilities, all that stuf. But that is a factor in Warhammer too.

And my experience with the actual games played is the exact opposite of Morks. The Warmachine/Hordes games I have played have all pretty much been the same, two enemies hammering at each other while trying to pull off convoluted and arcane manouvers. All the thought seemed to go into flexing the rules to work in your favour. It seemed less chess, and more Connect Four.

But like I said, that is my personal experiences. If players are getting into the game in your area, borrow someones force and have a couple of games. If it grabs you, then by all means, get into it. You shouldn't be playing a system because it is 'in', you should be playing it because you enjoy it.
