Hello there, me and my gaming group are preparing a continuous Warband campaign. I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with the play-style and would be able to share some ways of handling the game mechanics, scenarios and army composition. I'n especially interested in adapting the rules for 8th. Here's a list of things I've spy-stolen from the ininets so far. These are notes on the Warbands Rulebook

Hey there, My friends and I just started a Warbands campaign. 250 is the starting point value. We have been talking alot about magic, steadfast and breath weapons (specifically in combat they would be too gross). We also agreed to ban monsters, as they would just be wayyy too powerful. I'll let you know if we come to any conclusion or play any games. It would be nice to see a 8th edition update for Warbands. |

Hey, thanks for the reply! Magic is already pretty limited with a maximum of a lvl.2 wizard. The one Magigian perk, should not be able to change that. Steadfast would seam silly indeed with such small numbers. Hmm, breath weapons? I can only think of a few high-point magic items and monster that would be able to do that. Excepting our own Pestilence Breath(Strenght 2 isn't thát incredible). How do you handle the army composition? We have adapted the percentages of 8th but keep the restrictions of only one war machine per warband and such. We also changed the champion upgrade to be allowed for any unit size, so to be able to have a warband commander without having only a single unit in play. We start at a small 100 points which is feasible with O&G, Beastmen and Skaven. But our Elven Warbands don't really have a place there yet. Pleas keep me posted would really like to know how you guys handle things! |

Ahhh yes, my friend plays the new Ogres so if he brought a Firebelly it would be horrific. 2d6 S4 hits from his breath weapon would wipe a unit, haha, on top of him being a lv1 fire wizard. We are probably going to do our first battles tomorrow night so I'll post here with the results. Terrified of my buddies Lizzies, hes got like 3 groups of 5 skinks. Then a 10 man group. Going to be a lot of poison shots going around....dun dun dunnnnn... |

So our game got pushed back until tomorrow night but I think i finalized my list. I will either be against an all Gobbo force (hoping), WoC (thats ok), Poisonblowdartwall (yikes) or a vamp list (w/o magic..meh) Yea, anything less than 250 seemed difficult to make lists for so we agreed on 250. We also said (for now) you can have up to 150 points in characters as unit champions didn't feel "solid" enough to be a general. It shouldn't be bad with my group since we value fluff more than effectiveness. We said you only needed to have one core unit (but at least 2 units at all times) and could only have 1 warmachine and 1 rare. We banned monsters, because seriously what little warband would have a monster running around? Also, we might tweak the rules for Steadfast and/or Panic from casualties, at least at first... We'll see how it goes. I feel bad for my Ogre friend. He's got like 5 models in his list, haha. My 250 starting list will be: Cheiftain 45 AHW 2 - TRICKSTER ARCHTYPE (which is horribly overpowered, we might tone it down...also TK can take it but Gobbos cant..!??!1 whaaa?? typo much? TK can't even flee....) 15 Slaves /shields -37.5 10 Stormvermin /shields -80 19 Clanrats /shields -85.5 250 exactly |

I put together a map campaign to fill up gaps between warband fights so we'll be battling far more than just our warbands. I hadn't considered the power of that Firebelly, damn! Even with 5 models, I don't fear much for the safety of those Ogres though. I think Woc warbands could be very annoying when you've got limited access to magic. Skink blowpipe-line does sound a bit cheap, but ohwell. Will be having the first warband session today! |

First game vs all Goblin army, his list was: NG Hero - Ini 10 sword - Trickster 15 NG w/spears 5 NG w/bows 5 NG w/bows 6 Squigs w/ 2-3 handlers 6 Squigs w/ 2-3 handlers My final list was: Cheiftain - AHW - Barbarian 10 SV w/shields 15 Slaves w/shields 19 Clanrats w/shields Heres a little story I wrote up in like 30 mins to send out to my Warband group. It's meh, but I'd rather just paste this and not have to write something different. In case people don't want to read it all I won by a massacre and got the +100 exp. My objective i got to pick so and so decided that it would be pretty easy to take down the general. (and i did) I ended up losing 1 SV, 1 Clanrat and 3 Slaves permanently. We decided that you would only roll on the injury chart if your general actually died not if he flees off the board. Any other models that flee off the board must roll the 3+ to survive and any OTHER characters you might have still would roll on the injury chart for fleeing off the board since the general is likely to beat/maim them back into submission. We also decided to play that each model killed or fled off the board is worth VP to encourage fun list building and not deathstar VP denial builds. Anways, after the first week. The Skink army lost to a WoC (all khorne marauder) list. The Goblins lost to my Skaven. My Wood Elves (10 Dryads and 10 Glave Guard w/champ as general) demolished the Ogre army and didn't lose anything. We still have the Vamp, Daemons and High Elves to get games in. I may start a Bret warband just because I play quite a bit (I'm located centrally to all the guys) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Skrive was nervous. The new ship cheiftain was sure that at least some of his mangy crew wanted him dead. Indeed, his loyal rats killed at least a dozen of the old crew when word got out. It wasn't his fault that the old captain had tripped on his own tail and fallen 50 feet head-over-tail into the warp-shark infested waters of 'Swollen-Rat Cove'. At least thats what he told them. How dare they not believe him!? It was finally his turn to take over and receive his fair share of the stolen goods they plundered from careless merchant ships. He was definitely important enough to warrant a 75% claim. Yes-yes, life was looking up for once. > > That was until the Council of 13 stepped in and assigned him this wretched task. He had no idea how they knew exactly where he was. Being from Clan Skurvy, one of the prominent pirate clans, the council rarely called upon them to help with anything. How was he supposed to locate this great warpstone meteor they claimed had fallen into these lands? The solid ground under his feet didn't help with his unease. He missed the rock and sway of his ship. > > He looked around and took a quick survey of his remaining forces. 15 Slaves and 20 Clanrats, all seemingly loyal and of course the 10 Stormvermin who were skitterleapt by the council to help him "secure" the meteor. He was sure they had orders to silence him as soon as he was no longer needed. > > *Skrive sniffed the air* There was certainly something wrong here. The very air stank of malicious intent. He couldn't tell if it was coming from his own warriors or something sinister lurking in the woods nearby.... > > Just then the alarm went up. He peered down through the valley and spotted a Night Goblin army approaching. Surely they were looking for the same warpstone meteor he was! Judging by what little he was told, it could be worth 10x its weight in slaves and breeders!! That would make him a warlord in no time... > > The foolish Goblin general had obviously seen his troops approach as they were deployed in a pincer type attack formation. He took a quick survey of the enemy army and determined that victory was all but assured. Though, the short muscled creatures fighting with the goblins gave him pause. He had heard tales of them, but wasn't sure how powerful they were. > > Suppressing the urge to squirt the musk of fear he thought of a brilliant plan. Better to send his slaves and the council Stormvermin to soften the enemy up before committing his loyal troops to the fight! > > Seizing the initiative, the Skaven force moved forward. He sent the Stormvermin alone to the left flank thinking they should be able to clear it. If they failed and died, that was also fine with him. Screaming threats and curses at the slaves, he threw them into the right flank. His own unit he moved directly up the middle and faced the right side. He knew mere slaves wouldn't be able to hold off the meaty unit of spear wielding Night Goblins, even if they did somehow fight their way through those savage looking beasts. He had also decided that eliminating the Big Boss would greatly increase his standing with his underlings. > > Not wanting to be outdone, the Goblin commander screamed orders to fire at will. The 2 small groups of archers let loose with their volley. The shots aimed towards the Stormvermin bounced off of their heavy armor and shields. A single clanrat fell dead from Skrive's unit after taking an arrow to his throat. > > "Good, maybe that will show the others how to properly care for their armor", Skrive thought. > > The Stormvermin faced the archers on the right and issued a screeching charge. The goblin archers, seeing their arrows do nothing, did not want to test their melee ability against such a heavily armoured foe. They turned tail and ran. > > The Slaves were charged by the Squig Herders on the right hand flank. Thankfully Skrive hadn't beaten them today and so the quicker slaves were able to chop down a few of the frenzied beasts before they themselves lost 4 of their number. The melee was still on their side though and the goblins were forced to flee. Squigs, not known for their intelligence, resorted to flailing about and murdered an additional slave then went on to rip the limbs off of 6 Night Goblin spearmen before disappearing off the field. The look on the Big Boss' face was priceless. > > The Slaves were weakened and took a combined charge from the Spearmen and the Archers. It was enough to cause them to panic. Instead of running only to be caught by Skrive and tortured or worse, they decided to fight for their lives and took a few goblins with them before being run into the ground. > > Meanwhile on the other side of the battle, the Squigs were butchered by the Skaven Elite. They broke and ran only taking one Stormvermin with them in the process. The Stormvermin, seeing victory within their grasp, overran into the Goblin Archers and swiftly ended their lives, single-handedly clearing the left flank. > > Skrives unit of Clanrats charged the Goblin spearmen and issued a challenge to the Night Goblin Big Boss. Knowing that he would lose everything if the Skaven cheiftain were to label him a coward, the Boss accepted and ran forward. Skrive had fought goblins before and was utterly confident in his ability to put another to rest. This goblin though had a surprise, it was faster than a dancing fairy elf!! Narrowly avoiding death to the goblins enchanted Swift Blade, Skrive whipped his additional hand weapon around and ripped the Goblins left eye from his socket. The Cheiftain felt horrible pain and knew instinctively that he had lost a good portion of his tail in the process, but this possibly the best outcome. Seeing their leader barely avoid decapitation was all the motivation the goblins needed. They turned tail and fled. The Clanrats gladly gave chase and slaughtered as many as they could before they were satiated. > > Skrive was victorious, but he knew that if the hated Greenskins had knowledge of the comet he would have to face much worse in order to claim it as his own. Finding a shattered blade on the ground Skrive wrapped his tail with access cloth and fastened the blade edge in place of the wound. Testing this new weapon he angrily slit the throat of the nearest dying goblin and raored to his soldiers that he shall be known as Skrive Slicetail from now on. > > Almost immediately, a robed figure blazed into view 5 yards in front of Skrive. It had to be a Grey Seer judging from the spell. With him he had 6 Stormvermin bodyguards. These additional troops were given to Skrive as a gift for his excellent battle. Knowing this to be far from the truth but having to accept it, Skrive nodded and began formulating a plan on how he was going to rid himself of this burden while also grabbing as much power as he possibly could.
