I only take Stormvermin if they're Queek's bodyguard. Otherwise, I'd rather use the points for Plague Monks, who consistently preform better than when I use stormvermin. |

That stormvermin unit cost roughly 600 points. For that cost, you can buy 40 swordmasters. If you are looking to lose CR by the highest number ever seen in the history of warhammer, you can try this one out. A fair fight against an SM unit is like jumping into a hecksaw. If you do not at least outnumber the SMs 1:4, you should not even think of gettinfg into CC with anything worth more than an ordinary slave. Disclaimer: The only "normal" unit that has a decent chance in a 1vs1 are gutterrunners, as they will shoot the SMs to kingdom come and deny them their rerolls. |

That may be true, but due to the high cost of everything in the Helf book, you will pretty much never see a unit of 40 SMs becuase they cost so much while being incredibly vulnerable to ranged attacks, espeically magic. Besides, I wouldn't have engaged a unit like that without support and having done damage to it with shooting/magic (its a very good target for PCCs).

that unit actually cost 390 but over 600 if you include the warlord, thankfully it was only 20 swordmasters |

I've had great success with both units of 40 in Horde formation and units of 30 just 6 wide. You just have to remember that they're still only Skaven and don't get overconfident with their fighting abilities. Some way or another, they always make back their points. I prefer them to Plague Monks because of them not being frenzied, Plague Monks have to overrun if you win a combat, while Stormvermin can do a combat reform, which is just awesome sometimes. Playing against Daemons not too long ago, my unit of 30 (+BSB and Warlord) charged 6 Flesh Hounds and destroyed them then combat reformed into the perfect position to flank charge a unit large of Bloodletters engaged with my Clanrat bus. A flank charge that they then made which led to the destruction of said Bloodletters. If Plague Monks had been used then instead of Stormvermin, they would have had to overrun and been unable to assist the Clanrats for like 4 more rounds of combat, by which time the Clanrats would all be dead. Stormvermin models are really awesome too. |
