Hey guys, in an official standard tournament (for example gamesday) are regiments of renown allowed to be taken? |

Hack 'n Slash!

Agreed. Who wants a crappy human/halfling regiment when our skaven strike faster and have better movement, not to mention Ld 10 for a good portion of the fight... |

As for the question, they have indeed been FAQed out so no you can't use them. Availability of mercenaries is one of the main reasons I pine for 6th ed. Mercenaries could add spectacular colour and variety to armies and the companies GW provided were loaded with personality and general coolness. Which was attractive to me as I was fielding bland and boring High Elf-things at the time. Mysel' and my friend would often vie for the fielding rights for his unit of Tilean pikemen he converted out of Uruk-hai and spare Empire heads (I'd usually get them as he had more points than me anyway and we were at that age where we thought 'more points in a game'='better'). Mercenaries were also pretty intrinsic to medieval warfare. Late-Renaissance Italy and you could easily have two armies facing off against each other who'd be almost entirely composed of mercenaries of a fickleness and colourfulness to rival even Nicomo Cosca (famed soldier of fortune). Personally I'd quite like a reintroduction of mercenaries into the game. They add a lot of colour, allow you to have an element of your army that works in a different (and therefore fun) way to the rest of it and can be painted accordingly differently too of course. You can of course also build in myriad fun rules surrounding their use. ![]() As for wheter GW will reintroduce them... I can only be highly pessemistic. I don't think GW want anyone other than themselves tampering with ideas for lists. It'd also play merry hell with the delicate sensibilities of the powergamers at tournaments. I really need to move back to 6th ed. Things were nice back then... :wistful look: |

+1 The Dogs Of War list and ability to take Regiments of Reknown in any army (except brets) was a tactical boon for any player. Dwarfs too slow? Get the Galloper guns or Desert Raiders. Skaven always running away? Get the Cursed Company. Lack of fliers? Get the Birdmen. e.t.c. My real concern is that Gamesworkshop has also now cut Ogres from being available for all armies (except brets) as now I've got a unit of Leadbelchers that will be gathering dust. Can someone verify this? Heh maybe all the Regiments of Reknown finally struck it rich and have retired?
