I don't wanna die

Warlord
As a warlord, it is my duty to be a rolmodel for my troops. Being a rolmodel is setting the good example.
So what i absolutely cant afford is : dieing. (or is it dying? )
Now, along with my Warlock engineer, we ve been through the scavenger pile (By the way, Wilqueek, found your sock there !!! Its now a Fungus Sock from Hell. Opponents must pass a toughness test or flee from the stench)

But we picked up some things (and put some more in our pockets) and are now trying them out in our secret room( yes, yes... the bathroom...)
So, if i interpret the rules correctly, i now have:
Heavy armour and a shield.
I also have a foul Pendant (giving me a +5 ward save)

The general idea is that
1) those dirty rotten bastards at the other side of the table first have to throw to hit me
2) then have to throw to wound me
3) then i get a throw of +4 for my armour safe (heavy armour and shield = +4 , right?)
4) then i get a throw of +6 for my parry safe (shield, correct?)
5) then i get one more final throw at +5 for my ward save.
6) if for some reason, i still dont survive this , i just throw the table at my opponent. (yes yes... i ll remove my models first)

Am I correct in all this (up to point 5, because i m pretty sure some of you will start whining that throwing tables isnt really fair play. But then again...using a dragon to attack you from behind ...really? )
or am i making mistakes in my diabolical scheme to rule the underempire?

Also...is it safe to burn the sock? Or will it explode?

Alas, mighty Warlord Koffietje, there is a small issue in the plan. You can only ever have one ward save. You can't use both the 6+ ward save from the parry and that of the Foul Pendant. In a circumstance like that you merely use the best ward save which would be the Foul Pendant one at 5+.

Foul Pendant is of course excellent protection for a Warlord. It's nice and cheap at 30pts and a 5+ ward save along with whatever armour save he has will usually be all it's worth giving him as regards protection. Personally I like to keep my warlords cheap and give them a halberd but if you're going with a magic weapon then a shield is always worthwhile. Occasionally you might want to go with the Enchanted Shield for 10pts. Usually worth it for the extra point of armour save.

Best of luck,

I like using a talisman of preservation, normal shield and one of the helmets, usually the one that gives 2+ ward to fire. That way when on a bone breaker you have a 2+ armour, 4+ ward, 2+ ward to fire.

You cannot ever create a warlord that can survive combat reliably. Your best bet is the Wizard hat and a Shield - Skaven have some immensely ridiculous synergies to work with from the rulebook lores.

Warlord
Wizard hat and shield combined is 3 points more then the maximum that is allowed according to the armybook for warlords.
And with the stupidity special rule (and the amazing way in which i seem to be able to throw high dice whenever i really really dont want them...) my warlord would be like a minister : doing nothing half the time, and messing it up the other half of the time.

I took in the talisman of preservation now. +4 ward save seems better anyway.
I still got like 10 points left. So would that allow me to take the dragon helm? +1 armour save would bring me all the way to +3 armour save and i would get a +2 ward save against flaming attacks. Is that still correct?

Also ...thanks for silently supporting me in my table throwing manner of playing. I knew i couldnt be the only one with that urge.

Nope, the maximum cost is for MAGIC gear. The shield doesnt count towards that limit because its a mundane item :)

A blood curling cough a day, keeps the assassins away

There actually are some defensive builds for skaven that tend to work rather fine.

For instance:
Warlord: warlitter, Dargon helm, talisman of preservation, potion of thoughness, shield, you still have 25 points left to take a magic weapon

Warlord: warpstone armour, shield, dawnstone, skalm , warlitter. Leaving you with 15 points left

Warlord: Armor of silvered steel, talisman of preservation, halberd

You only get a 4+ armour save if your foe has S3. Anything higher and it gets progressively worse.

Warlord koffietje, as a long-lived Skaven warlord, my advice to you on the best way to not die is - don't be on the battlefield. First of all, you are probably better off letting one of those weird Grey Seers lead your army, the +4 to dispel attempts is worth the cost, not to mention the entertainment you'll get when he blows himself (and a significant part of your army) up. Second, if you want to field a fighty caracter, Chieftains are cheap and do the job well enough. Third, Skaven warlords have a rather depressingly low battlefield survival rate in my experience. It was higher in the old days, when we could spend the entire battle hiding at the back of a nice large unit. If you are determined to field a warlord, though, let some ambitious underling pretend to be warlord for a day. In the unlikely chance that he survives the battle, you can always have him assassinated and claim that it was you on the battlefield the entire time.

What i've been thinking about is a warlord on a warlitter, with warpstone armour, shield, item of re-roll armour saves (dont know how much it costs!(hopefully less than 25 points) and talisman of preservation.

Thats a 2+ re-rollable armour save with a 4+ ward, as well as this all saved armour saves bounce back on your opponent at S4. Best to run at low strength units and watch them kill themselves.... (elves :D...)

Sadly the Dawnstone (item of re-roll armour saves ) and Talisman of Preservation are both Talismans so you can't have both on the same character. The 2+ re-roll bouncing save works well enough though :)

Argh that would have made such a survivable warlord :( oh well. The whole relying on an armour save business is something i dont like to do.
oh well a good excuse to use those 45 points on some kind of a weapon. Any suggestions? how much does the wizarding hat cost? and what exactly does it do? (feel free to equate it to other models in the skaven book that way you arn't going against forum rules....

(e.g. talisman of protection is like one warlord or three warlock engineers)

Tell you what, if you swap your plagueclaw catapult for my pointy hat that'd be a fair trade ;) But it's not just any hat, oh no, why this thing'll make the bearer a genuine wizard of the second order (side effects include random generic spells and acute loss of intelligence). ;)

There are a couple of nice weapons in the BRB that'll fit within your 45 point budget too. The Ogre blade could be nice.
