For those that remember the old (and with that, I mean OOOOOOOOOOLD) Star Wars: X-Wing computer game, I do think that you are going to appreciate the following...

Fantasy Flight Games

Description

With its pivotal role at the Battle of Yavin, the Incom Corporation T-65 X-wing fighter claimed its place in history. Boasting high-powered laser cannons, proton torpedo launchers, and a reinforced titanium-alloy hull, this solid and dependable craft has earned its reputation as a staple in the Rebel Alliance's arsenal against the Galactic Empire.

The Sienar Fleet Systems TIE fighter, a lightweight and nimble starfighter designed with efficiency and affordability in mind, is the X-wing's opposite in nearly every conceivable way. But what the TIE fighter lacks in defensive capabilities, it more than makes up for in numbers. While one TIE fighter seldom presents a real threat to skilled Rebel pilot, two or more working in concert can quickly overwhelm ships several times their size.

X-Wing is a tactical ship-to-ship combat game in which players take control of powerful Rebel X-wings and nimble Imperial TIE fighters, pitted against each other in fast- paced space combat. Featuring stunningly detailed and painted miniatures, X-Wing recreates exciting Star Wars space combat throughout its several included scenarios. Select your crew, plan your maneuvers, and complete your mission!

Quick, intuitive rules will have you fighting in minutes
"We'll have to destroy them ship to ship. Get the crews to their fighters."
-Darth Vader

The X-Wing starter set includes everything you need to begin your battles, such as scenarios, cards, and fully assembled and painted ships. And with the quick-start rules, you can simply select a mission, position your ships on the playing space as instructed, and choose your opening move. Want more fighters? X-Wing's quick-to-learn ruleset establishes the foundation for a system that can be expanded with your favorite ships and characters from the Star Wars universe. Keep watching in the coming months to see how you can add your favorite Star Wars ships to your space battles!

Whatever your chosen vessel, X-Wing's rules facilitate fast and visceral gameplay that puts you in the middle of Star Wars' fiercest firefights. Each ship type has its own unique piloting dial, which is used to secretly select a speed and maneuver each turn. After planning maneuvers, each ship's dial is revealed and executed (starting with the lowest skilled pilot). So whether you rush headlong toward your enemy showering his forward deflectors in laser fire, or dance away from him as you attempt to acquire a targeting lock, you'll be in total control throughout all the tense dogfighting action.

Choose your crew and take command

"That little droid and I have been through a lot together."
-Luke Skywalker

X-Wing's advanced rules let you spend setup points to allot resources to your ship or ships, so whether you enter the fray with a seasoned ace, an anxious rookie, or even Luke Skywalker himself, you'll face a range of compelling options before you even fire up your engines. Choose your pilot, fighter specifications, and (in the case of the X-wing) astromech droid, all of which has a direct and significant impact on your strategy.

For example, as the powerful X-wing can establish a targeting lock on nearby Imperial starfighters (increasing its offensive potential on subsequent attacks), the nimble TIE Fighter's evasive maneuvers allow it to quickly avoid incoming fire. And while many astromech droids can make repairs to their X-wings mid-mission, the TIE fighter alone has the ability to execute a rapid barrel roll, confusing a pursuer or improving its own offensive position. These unique actions, along with a range of special crew abilities, help create a unique play experience every time.

To pilot your vessel, you'll use the movement guide that corresponds to the maneuver you've chosen for a given turn. First, place the starting end of the movement guide flush with the base of your craft. Then, simply pick up your miniature and place it at the end. Once you've established your position, you're free to determine attacks against any enemies in range. This simple mechanic delivers a wealth of tactical depth; make sharp turns, execute strafing runs, and wrestle your opponents for the best shot!

Recreate Star Wars' most memorable battles

"Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances."
–Grand Moff Tarkin

X-Wing features a number of unique missions, and each has its own set of victory conditions; with such a broad selection of missions, only clever and versatile pilots employing a range of tactics will emerge victorious.

What's more, no mission will ever play the same way twice, thanks to a range of customization options, varied maneuvers, and possible combat outcomes. Damage, for example, is determined through dice and applied in the form of a shuffled Damage Deck. Each time your fighter sustains a hit, you'll draw a card that assigns a special handicap. Was your targeting computer damaged, affecting your ability to acquire a lock on the enemy? Perhaps an ill-timed weapon malfunction will limit your offensive capabilities. Or worse yet, your pilot could be injured, compromising his ability to focus on the life-and-death struggle in which he is engaged...

With its realistic rules system, beautifully detailed components, and range of gameplay options, X-Wing immerses players in the tense cinematic excitement of Star Wars' interplanetary combat. And with multiple sets, you can even combine your forces to create your own epic engagements. Take to the stars, and decide the fate of the galaxy!

Just in from Gencon - X-Wing and Star Wars the Card Game from Fantasy Flight Games

Obviously we're all crazy busy here, but I want to drop some photos for everyone to check out the great-looking components FFG brought in today for both X-Wing and the new Star Wars the Card Game LCG. The Card Game will be detailed in a post in (hopefully) a little bit, but here are my X-Wing pictures. I did some interviews and will have a ton more specifics about the games themselves, but for now, enjoy the pictures! Also, check back frequently as I plan to continue to mega-dump some photos throughout the next three and a half days of Gencon.

I am actually quite stoked about this. While seemingly not being a too difficult ruleset (aside from looking a wee bit like Aeronautica Imperialis), there is nothing that speaks more to my inner geekness then being able to recreate Star Wars X-Wing battles! How awesome can this be?

Red leader , watch your back !
"I cant shake him"

Just for you to know... I M NOT OLD ! I saw the movies, played the X-wing game on my pentium (thats pentium 1 fyi) and pretty much tried to open every door with "the force" (imagine my surprise when one day a glass door actually opened all by itself , just by me lifting my hand. Of course, that was in a supermarket and they just invented those automatic doors... But still...)

The game looks rather nice but seriously outdated, if you ask me. If they only launch it now, then they re about 32 years too late. Ah well, looks funny. And at least you can mak" Swoosh " and " piew piew piew kaboom" noises while playing it.

If you think about it, Fantasy Flight Games doesn't exist that long, nor does it propably have a Star Wars license that long. ;)

They also announced Star Wars LCG ( Living Card Game) that looks really good and if you think about it, its FFG, their stuff is always good. I hope that now that they started with Star Wars that they will make RPG ( Role Playing Game). Something fancy like Warhammer 3rd Edition
