No it seems Annoymous is split on the issue of FB. Some thing it's evil some think it's OK. So it's debatable it is definitely not fake since I know people in the group but the question is can they get enough support to do the attack effectively? As it would need A LOT of people using LOIC. Which is why it's not happening now but on a set date so they can try and rally suppose but I don't think they will get enough volunteers to kill FB there server is too big. This just popped up confirming what I said Splinter Group Edited by SkavenDan, 10th August 2011 - 09:35 AM.

Nah, it'll never happen. Facebook is serious, made by a genius programmer by his own right, and massive. It'd take all of them working together to even have a chance. -Blader |

From my calculations they would need about 1 million computers and I already told them they can't use my 15 that I have access to. So am with bladder at the moment.

Hooray! More people on Google+ now! ![]() Tbh I think this whole hacking of sites thing is a bit overrated. We saw it with the CIA and the Sun recently. This kinda humourously explains what I'm on about and I reckon that's all this splinter group will be capable of, if even that. Disabling the login page for a couple of hours. No big deal, I'll just go to MyMeteor and use webtexts or dust off the old Bebo account. These hacker guys do seem to think very highly of themselves. I'm sure they're very very clever people but the way they go on about themselves... That said, I do kinda favour their existence. Despite their promises they haven't been able radically change the face of the world (it's a very good thing they haven't imo) but the fact that they're there will hopefully keep governments and companies on their toes a bit more and make sure they don't do anything even nastier than normal. Why Facebook though. I mean surely there must be thousands of websites far far more evil than Facebook. Or is it the government's job to take care of those ones...? |

It's what facebook does that scares people. Once the face recognition software has masked your face it can potential use that mask to pick you up out on cctv and so on. They do push adverts at people based on relationship status and so if your down as engaged you will see a million photographer adds. It can get a bit dodgy. And in the past they have given copies of private messages to investigators. So it's really a case of don't say owt dumb on facebook or you will be found out just because it's not as easy to view as twitter you should still be just as careful.

Hold it have these guys just realised that anything you put in Facebook is effectively public to everyone? Also they want to do this on my birthday. :O |

This will never happen, not in a million years. They have failed, the suited vultures circling. Here are reasons why: 1. They will put up increased security. 2. They announced it. Simple as that. |

They announced going after visa and they actually crashed the visa server so just because your have advanced notice doesn't mean you will come out on top.

True but this isn't even the full force of Anonymous. That and Facebook is specifically build to handle massive loads. Visa will be built to handle short bursts of heavy traffic but it’s an integral part of Facebook that there is no such thing is to much traffic for it. |

That is exactly why I have my doubts about it's success. Still I would be bemused if it went down momentarily.

This is probably somewhat ironic. What should I find in my FB News Feed this morning but this:Sure enough I follow the directions and secure browsing is indeed disabled. Thanks a bunch Facebook. I hope crappy Anonymous splinter group do manage to take out your login page for three hours or whatever they're capable of. (But not too much longer than that as I'll want to talk to people. )

Yeah yesterday I got a email telling me I have an inbox message I tried to get it to open for 12 hours! So I retract my earlier comment if they can't even keep the inbox code running they could indeed be in for some trouble. |
