Hack 'n Slash!

Question: How do you guys field the furnace with the monks? At the moment I'm running it with a 7 man frontage (3 being the furnace), meaning only 4 plague monks get full attacks and 4 supporting, while still frenzied thats only 17 attacks from the regular monks. Seems meh but with the plague banner its decent for a turn. Any bigger and the unit becomes kinda unwieldy, and gains no extra benefit from fighting the standard 5 wide frontage, any smaller and I'm losing 4 attacks per frontage drop. Also, do the monks riding the furnace (crew) benefit from the banner? I have been playing it as no, but would be cool since they are considered Plague Monks. |

I run 35 Plague Monks with the Plague Banner and Full Command, 10 wide with a furnace. That means there's basically 5 ranks even at 10 wide, and horde formation gives me a ton of attacks. -Blader |

I field them 30men and also in horde formation, of cource with the plague banner (even of it's kind of a no-brainer). Although i've been looking into other options and both the banner of Verminous scyrring and the banner of the underempire. In most cases the plague banner is just way more effective for it's points. Although the verminous scurrying banner when used at the right time could also turn a battle. Flem, |

Hmm...that does seem nice..maybe I'll drop them down to 35 and run it as a horde. Anyone know if the banner effects the 6 (7 for frenzy) attacks from the "plague monk" crew? |

As they are plague monks, and the banner makes all plague monks in the unit re-roll to hit and to wound i'd say yes the 7 attacks from the furnace benifit from the banner. Flem, |

Not necessarially, while it makes sense logically that the monks on top of the furnace should get to reroll their attacks, they aren't models, they're a part of a model (unseperatable by themselves). Why bring up the fact that the crew are not models? The banner says all "Plague Monk Models" may reroll their hits and wounds. The crew on the Furnace are not "plague monk models", they're not models at all, and the model they make up is a Plague Furnace, not a 'plague monk'. If the Plague Banner just said, Plague Monks may reroll their hits and wounds it'd be a no brainer, but throwing the word model in should/might negate the Furnace crew from benefiting since they are not 'plague monk models'. MTTE: At least that's how the situation pans out to me. --Cap Edited by CapAmr05, 9th August 2011 - 06:25 PM.

I hate it when Cap has a good point against my chosen model being better, but now that I look closer at our army book, it clearly states that the Plague furnace "is treated as a single model... plague monk crew." So while they are literally models of plague monks, the army book denies that they are plague monk models. Oh well. There go a few extra hits.

If they had just said "Plague Monks" or better "Pestilens Models", I wouldn't bat an eye at using the banner to get rerolls on the Furnace. But they had to go and complicate it by throwing the phrase "Plague Monk Models" down. ![]() Personally, I've grown fond of running a unit of plague monks in horde formation without the Furnace, most people see a lack of Furnace as a reason to ignore them (a very costly mistake when that banner goes off). --Cap Edited by CapAmr05, 10th August 2011 - 01:20 PM.
