Hey everyone, new to this forum, i've always wanted to collect the Skaven, as I just really really like them, and was able to finally start on them! So so far this is what I have: -80 clanrats -40 plaguemonks -4 rat ogres -6 giant rats -1 skaven warpfire thrower -1 poisoned wind mortar -1 warlock engineer -skaven warlord so pretty much skaven battalion + island of blood + 20 additional plague monks i've assembled them all, but i'm really stuck on the colour schemes. I'm also stuck on a theme, i can't seem to come up with one , and what to add to my army, i don't know if I want to get more rat ogres or plaguemonks or to go artillery wise, i'm quite undecided! ((and if it helps, my brother is collecting a HE army)) I'm very new to the skaven, but i'm absolutely loving them at the moment, suggestions? thanks a lot, sjd

About colour schemes: That is absolutly your own cup of tea. Grey, bleached bone, red and green worked for me, blue did not, but that is totaly up to you. I suggest you look at this site http://www.coolminiornot.com/. They have around 50 pics of clanrats alone, maybe there is a color scheme you would like. About what to get next: Any skaven army has three columns on which it is build: a. slaves: You have 80 of them, nice for small games around 1500 points, if you want to advance to 2500, you will need more, but not that urgent. b. character models: You need a grey seer and a battle standard bearer (you already have him, its a chief), more than one warlock is always nice. c. special choices: Hellpits, Cannons and Doomwheels are the hardest hitting units skaven can field. Any of these can add a lot of fun and fighting power to your army (HPa being the strongest and DW the weakest). what not to get: nightrunners, if you do not want to use them as gutterrunners Bell and furnace (both of them are good, but you do not have enough models to play them in a reasonable way jezzails: Quite useless as they never hit anything. For their price I would rather invest my money in a porsche-collection. Plague censer bearers: Too expensive for what they can do. |

thanks for the website, so many of them!! I'm starting to paint my clanrats fur/skin shields a calthan brown, and then i'll diverge into different highlighting etc... from there on, still deciding on 'armour' (if you could call it that :P) colour though... Units wise, should I go HPA way or another unit or two of plague monks and go from there, I intend to have around 2000-2500 skaven army, and still go from there, where should I begin? I'm keen on special units such as DW or HPA but I'm also quite keen on another warlock or assassins... would you recommend gutter runners?? |

40 monks is enough for anything you want to do with them (unless you want to make a pestilence theme army) As far as the core units go, you will need at least 150 bodies (clanrats/slaves) for 2000 points. Thats the bare minimum, not the optimum, which lies between 200 and 300 in an 2500 list (that is just my opinion, but i think many people here will agree with me). If you use plague monks, you can drop those numbers a little. In general, you say that skaven armies who do not follow the formula: "points devided by 10 = bodies" are rather small. Gutter runenrs are definitivly a must in any competetive skaven army . Take one or two units of 6-9 of them, with poison slings. If the metal/resin ones are too expensive, build your own or prox (I myself use high elfs...) WLCs and Doomwheels are a lot of fun to play and quite random. The HPA is very strong and if you start to play games at 1000 to 1500 points with your friends, you are in danger of not playing them all to often since the HPA is greatly out of balance in a 1000 point games. I am no prophet, but the use of HPAs in small scale battles usualy leads to unfun games (If your definition of fun is something else than: "I own u with imba units") |

I've been pretty busy so far so haven't had the chance to do some painting lately, however, I definetly am thinking of getting a box of 20 night runners and converting them into gutter runners, and from then on, i'll go with a theme, but that's going to be my starting 'core army' and then i'll 'specialise'... @lord verminkin I remember reading some fluff about this as well, I might go with the idea of painting the cloaks of painting my skaven red, but it still depends on what theme/ clan I'm going to direct my army around, so many ideas, which one to choose?!! ![]() Can't wait to get back to it though

On the other paw my minotaurs certainly will attack any skaven with red cloth.

okay so I've been saving up to get myself a unit, and I've been thinking of getting myself a unit of rightrunners to convert into gutterrunners, but, after doing some more reading there's always the suggestion and recommendations of things such as doomwheels... I'm pretty undecided into what I should buy, should I go gutterrunner way or more doomwheel way? Also, an update on my painting, I've started to paint my plague monks a knarlock green for the capes, I love them!!
