I was thinking, today (thank god i survived), why doesn't gw release an army and codex for kislev? it seems that they would make much money if they did, and we all know that gw loves money. but why wouldnt they, kislev is a very important part of the warhammer world. what about araby or tilea? far cathay, with samurais and ninjas? albion with fairie swarms and giants? seems to me that a lot of people would pay for and support these armies. by the way, i know there is unofficial fan material for these. i was just wondering why gw has never released anything for them.

Wouldnt it be cool if they released an expansion where Cathay tried to take over the world, with Araby and Tilea as allies, making these 3 armies available and official?

They did release a small supplement for Kislev with White Dwarf once, even brought out a few models too like a Tsar on a Bear. I think it was mostly like an attached army to Empire though. Still got the booklet around if I remember rightly. I'll have a quick check of the GW site now and see if the models are still available.

MUTATE: Nope, out of production :(

Bunny ear says flop

Around the Storm of Chaos period, an expansion booklet for the Kislev forces as well as miniatures were released, which basically was an add-on force to some of the 'good guys', a bit akin to Dogs of War. As I'm not a GW higher-up, I have no clue why they never expanded on this range, but I assume this (as well as with Araby, Cathay, Tilea, Imperial province-specific armies, etc.) is due to the actual in-depth work that needs to be done on the I.P., as well as the production cost for setting up a completely new line of models.

There are rules for using Kislev as allies in the 2004 Annual (along with wood elves and Cult of Ulric) as for the reason they were never made a mainstream army it's probably because with two human armies already (Plus dogs of war) there really isn't much of a tactical niche to fill. The elves have three deafen types and people complain that they play the same. They probably didn't want people complaining that all humans played the same so decided to stick with just two armies.

O and Vinz don't move a thread when I'm trying to post. It gives me a weird error thing :P

The Kislev models are no longer available and go for a fortune on ebay, as does most of the SoC stuff (check out the Warmaster prices if you see one on auction, it's very amusing). I have the Tsar Boris on a bear model plus a few Tutogen Guard, and they really are nice sculpts. We have a player at our club who occasionally digs his out as a 'counts as' Empire army. Personally I'd like to see more use of the IP like this. Even if they just release bits packs or conversion kits, there's a lot of human flavour they could mine.

I was under the impression that Tiela and Estalia were similar to the empire, just that they were based on Italy and Spain (respectively) instead of germany.

I think, in addition to the amount of work that was mentioned above, the reason why GW doesn't expand further into more exotic cultures is becuase they easily could end up offending certain ethnic groups if the lore they write for them is portrayed in "the wrong way." GW needs to tread very carefully when adding/expanding into Araby, Cathy, Ind, Nipun (or w/e the japaneese equivelent is) ect. becuase now more than ever people will sue over racial insensitivity whether they know anything about the world the game is set in or not. It only takes one overly concerned, uninformed parent to cost GW millions.

Playing skaven to minimize randomness is like going to prom with your sister, you can do it if you really want, but in the end everyone will still laugh even if you do get lucky.

I always take at least one Warpfire Thrower. You can't always rely on your opponent to do massive damage to your troops. Sometimes, you just have to do a job yourself.

Or one parent pretending to be overly concerned just to make themselves so rich they'd never have to work again.

I think that the Kislev range of minis is in the same black hole as the Regiments of Renown - too low a demand for GW to keep them in stock. If/when GW ever figures a way to bring the Dogs of War & Regiments of Renown back, we may see Kislev return as well. They are nice minis, so it'd be nice if they came back in some manner.

In the end though it comes down to money. Games Workshop are not willing to risk a large amount of money on an army that already has two other armies filling its niche. Especially since Games Workshop are finding it harder and harder to sell and keep updated the armies they have. Making another human army would probably fall somewhere on their to do list bellow bringing back Chaos Dwarfs.

Getting away from politics and paints, and back to Firby's original comment about Kislev, what I'd really like to see is a move towards larger, more flexible army books. Not just in terms of playing style--Empire armies are already pretty flexible that way already--but in terms of fluff. Incorporate Kislev into the Empire army book; find a way to reward players who take their Daemons from only one of the Chaos powers--or, for that matter, who adhere strictly to one Skaven Clan. (That, by the way, would not be me--my Skaven are not at all fluffy, and I made a decision early on that I would mix clans freely.) Or perhaps Kislev could be part of another army book, one allowing various smaller human powers to fight, a bit like Dogs of War.

I'm not sure whether it's true, but it somehow feels to me like GW is concentrating now more on major releases, with fewer actual new models than they were doing a few years ago. It's like, they don't feel like they have the freedom to release random models anymore: everything has to be part of a big push.

I would love to see Dogs of War back. Give me their silly but colourful backstories, fun models and just downright interesting units any day of the week.

GW put the lore of ice on the website last winter, I thought I had it saved on my computer but I can't find it - I'll send a slave out into the interwebs to try and find it (skaven)

MUTATE:
Here's a link to a website that has it up, its the same as the GW one they put out . . .

Why U do dis?!
I do believe that the huge bears of kislev are rumoured to be in storm of magic.

I may (though i might be totally imagining this) I have seen some WIP models of them at some point, along side the WIP dark elf dragon.
I will be attempting to find the picture if I can.
I am looking to get a hold of the following items, as many as possible:
The new style skulls from numerous kits (less heroic scale skulls)
Any bits of skeletons (both older skeletons and new vc skeletons)
Toppers from stormvermin banners (grey seer type skulls)

I have lots of fantasy and 40k bits to trade, including:
Imperial guard special and heavy weapons
Daemonette bits
Bits from land raiders, and chaos space marines
clanrat arm weapons
hellpit arms
Ghoul and zombie bodyparts
older metal Chaos marines

Message me if you can help.

I took a gander yesterday through one of my local gaming stores, (we have 3 close buy), and guess what I found;

Kislev Ice Queen, on horse. The queen is metal, horse is plastic. It was for $9.99, so i bought it, hoping it would be worth some money on ebay. It wasn't (bummer). I still think i'll keep it unopened, though. Might be worth something, one day.
