So, I was having a look at the rulebook recently after a game where a Tomb King player plonked 19 archers in a building and that all got to fire, which gave me an idea about 100 slaves with slings, but found out he was either ignoring or ignorant about the "Five Per Level" rule. Kind of a big deal because the player in question almost always put his ranged units in buildings and finding this out will drastically change his game plans. ANYWAY! Funky rule-gravy has happened before in our group, so I decided to read up on a few other things that have been fuzzy for me. One of these is charging. Now after reading the rulebook, it's a lot clearer, but my main question is still this: From which point of the unit do you measure your charge from? This mainly applies for when you charge from an angle. The guy who usually knows the rules says that you measure from furthest corner to corner, but I can't see anything in the rulebook about it. Wouldn't you measure from the closest corners, since all you need to do is touch the base, then "close the door"? Up until now we've been doing charges like this: Measure from furthest corners. Roll charge range. Move the units Make base to base contact. Close the door. Maximize combat. But, just to make sure I have this right in my head, charging should go: Measure distance (from point I asked about) Roll charge If charge is successful move directly forward, no manoeuvring. At any point during the charge you can wheel ONCE, which must be done in such a way as to get maximum frontage BEFORE reaching combat. This doesn't remove anything from your movement because you've already been found to be in range. Make base contact. Close the door. Is this correct? Your example is correct. You measure closest conner to corner and then wheel once to maximize frontage. |

Correct, the distance between the two units should be based on the closest point between the 'closest' models from each unit. To people saying use the furthest rank, that's incorrect and would cause variable distances for the identical charges based on the width of the charging unit. If you were in horde formation, and you had an enemy unit in horde formation facing perpendicular to yours, the furthest models would be very far apart (even though the closest models could be within 4" of eachother). If you reduced the width of the charging unit to 5 models wide, now all of a sudden the same charge is a different distance; i.e. it wouldn't be fair, Notice that the A distance is constant, and the B distance can be variable based on unit width. That's why we use A for determining charge distance. --Cap |

However in the above diagram the red unit would need to wheel slightly before charging, if it charged straight ahead it wouldn't make contact. |

Why U do dis?!

True, king rat. It gets to make a single wheel of up to 90 degree's. Once it reaches contact, it may make another bonus, infinite arc to "close the door" so as to get as many models into close combat as possible. |
