Sinces it's news here apparently, here's a list of the new price increases. It's now going to cost $143 to start a skaven army with a battalion and army book. Clanrats are going up by $2. On the subject of buying GW products I'm conflicted. Ogres, Necrons, Bretonnians and Sister's Of Battle are all due for an update and all are armies I collect. Chances are, I'll buy the new books from GW and get all my models from eBay. Does anyone know if eBay is the only way of getting GW models without actually giving them money? I want to continue the hobby, but I don't want to give GW money if I can avoid it. Edited by Grey Seer Exahm, 18th May 2011 - 10:23 PM.

Unfortunately, fleabay will be the only best option for most people so bidding will be fierce, you (or any of us) will be lucky to score anything cheap there anymore. In fact, this past year I noticed a lot of auctions selling much higher than the year before, seems some rich people don't mind paying through the nose for bits even. | ||

Wow....new army books like O&G and TKs are going up to 41.25? They just released those with the new jacked up costs and now they are raising them again? Can you say PDFs? Bittorrents? |

Their focus on the core games has already been noticable for about some five/ six years now, Stinkhair. When mentioning I played Blood Bowl to a staff member, they told me they'd love to take me up for a game (cause, of course, it is from GW and thus by default it's the bleepin' awesome!!!1111!!11one!!!!), but... only after opening hours, cause by the Horned One, they'd use a gaming table for anything other then one of the core games. So, yeah, the GW stores in the Netherlands have for years now had an awfully strong focus on the core games (which kind of feels like a bit of propaganda, so I'm awaiting for the moment when similar to the squats that the Specialist Games don't exist), which also is one of the reasons why I'm not a fan at all of the GW stores/ staff/ management. Still... My last Fantasy game is two years ago, my last purchase (aside from, silly as I was, the 8th edition rulebook) was even from further back, and to be honest, I can't really be arsed about the price raises anymore, as I won't be buying their products at all. (For Blood Bowl miniatures, I head to Impact, and for Epic I have plenty of 6mm companies). Greetz |

I agree it's a shame they focus on the core games but the fact was that the smaller games don't generate the big cash so they squeezed it out of the main area to push the core games more. TBH I tie of this price topic situation. 1. They are a business they are in business to make money. 2. It's not like businesses every put prices down. 3. You always get one of these topics when the price goes up are you really suprised it did? Or do you think talking about it will make the prices go down? 4. GW doesn't care what you think about the price increases. 5. If it bothers you that much then either A ) go else where B ) quit C ) buy stocks in GW that way you can say to your partner that it's not costing you as much as everyone else because you get a share of the profits back. (I am actually looking into this one as the prices GW is charging means the return must be healthy and the cost of GW shares isn't as expensive as I thought it would be) 6. Stick with one army and you won't be broke. 8Th has only cost me a few IOB boxs and that's it. |

Here's the thing though, raising prices doesn't make any economic sense. How GW has been acting lately (cheaper materials that cost more, trade embargo etc) has riled up a lot of people and pushed them past breaking point, so they're leaving GW as a hobby, and I don't blame them. So their sales will likely take a drastic drop. I honestly can't see anyone in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil etc continuing to play any more given the frankly disgusting pricing they have to put up with now, And what does GW do when it sees it's sales drop? It raises prices again. Which pushes yet more people out of the hobby. GW more or less RELIES on bringing in new players to make money because most of their profits come from 10-15 year olds these days. Do you really think kids have $230 to start 40k? (Black Reach is going up to $99, $105 for the cheapest battalions and $32 for a Codex). GW and it's shareholders need to realise that they can't just keep pulling this kind of thing because eventually they're going to drive away their own customers. Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that my group sucks at putting the effort into learning how to ply different games, I would have gotten them playing Infinity by now. |

Well if you buy enough shares you would get a say in what is happening. I have 3,000 shares now mostly in banks because bankers are unthinkable money hogger much like GW. And I get to yearly chance to voice any concerns I have and to opose anything they do. The only way your going to affect the share holders mind frame is by becoming one. And on the note of new people = greater profit well it's true I hardly purchase anything not because I can't aford but because I can field everything I want to without new models required. So theres not much cash to be made from keeping me so why should they put alot of effort into keeping me? New people always equals a higher profit margin they are starting new will buy things and shelf them never to be used because at the time it seemed like a good purchase like cavalry. I could go on. |

Many businesses have occasional discounts, sales, or deals. Gw has never has any of these (outside of Battalions).
I just like to take the opportunity to remind people this has happened before, will happen again, and make anyone who might not be aware of the fact, that they are being incredibly ripped off. Talking about it might spread the word which might dissuade purchases which might cause demand to drop which might, for once, convince GW to lower prices.
Yup. If people keep buying, then they don't care.
Like I said - I've stopped buying. I hope others do the same.
This equates to 'Accept that you will get less models for more money, and be happy with it'. Sure. Bend over and take it, like a good boy. It hurts less if you don't fight it.
Yes and no. Many gamers used to branch out into multiple armies. In days gone by, most people would have a few things they fancied collecting. Finished your Skaven? Get some elves, they seem fun! Fancy something new? Branch out into LotR or 40k! A gamer might not make huge initial purchases, but if you get someone hooked and they make steady streams of small purchases, you get more money out of them in the long run. Sure, maybe not everyone did it... but a lot of people did. A kid getting a £200 birthday army is not going to balance out someone who plays for 20 years and collects five armies. Additionally, factor this in: A group of players gaming with painted/modeled armies and having fun is an advertisement and endorsement of the game. Happy veteran gamers, even if they don't spend much themselves, will draw new people into the hobby - People share what they enjoy with their friends, especially with a social hobby like warhammer. A friend got me into warhammer. I got two friends into warhammer. One of those got three others into it. There's a positive feedback loop here. A group of people playing and enjoying warhammer will inevitably generate interest in the hobby - far better than a shop full of bratty spoiled children ever will. Keeping your fanbase loyal and happy is a long-term investment with massive dividends for a company like GW. But, yes, the options are to either suck it up, or vote with your wallet. I'm just hoping people do the latter, for once. |

Perhaps a bit much Stinky? But wicked funny! On Topic: I have pretty much stopped collecting minis and playing as well. The reason is not just because a lack of time due to family and work, but also the cost. As someone mentioned before, it used to be pocket money to collect. $15-20 bought me most of my blood bowl team in high school. Now it doesn't cover a box of clannies or the two plague claw catapults. I don't think folks should stop playing. It is a great game. I do think that folks should look into alternate minis though. (tough for skaven, I know) As for me, my last purchases have been a variety of montrous minis to convert a Moulder-themed army with. Slave are still the bane f my existence though... |

Eight items eligible for Prime... Stormvermin, WLC, Battalion, Clannies, Night Runners, Doomwheel, HPA, one of the metal warlocks. No massive savings on them and there's only 1 or 2 of each item available. It was a nice thought though. Looks like there are items slightly cheaper but not eligible for Prime. Od. **MUTATE** My bad, this is only for Amazon.co.uk. Haven't checked .com yet. Edited by Odlitch The Ruiner, 20th May 2011 - 07:28 AM.
