Grey Seer - Summoner of Verminlords
|
So they are dropping metal almost completely? Heard it was coming but to switch to resin? 90-60 SKAVEN WARLORD £9.50 90-61 QUEEK HEADTAKER £10.50 90-62 DEATHMASTER SNIKCH £10.50 90-40 SKAVEN WARPLOCK JEZZAILS £30.00 - What the heck is this? A new box set of jezzails? The characters I can understand but where are the others? |

GW announcement here. From what I'm hearing about it, "Fine cast" is the same metal figures just cast in a resin/resin+plastic hybrid, selling for either the same price or higher. Considering that resin should be cheaper than metal, lots of people are peeved.

Totally dropping it. Metal is gone and it's being phased out entirely over the next few months. Though it'll be interesting to see iwhat the models look like with the better detail added since resin holds it better. |

I'm crossing my fingers and knotting my tail that the Jezzail set has 5 models in it. But it's going to be three isn't it Also I guess this means we won't be seeing new/plastic jezzails or even globies.

I don't see that it's saying a definate no to new figures, just that for the forseeable future, the existing metal ones will instead be resin. Any price increase is looking relatively small, and i won't be too miffed as long as the figure quality is improved. That said, if GW are dropping metal for financial reasons, and using resin with fewer costs, and STILL upping prices at the till, then I'd be seriously pissed, personally. That's just greedy. Pissed Bob. |

That's EXACTLY what they're doing, and combined with the business about shipping to the Southern hemisphere thing a lot of people are becoming angry and leaving the hobby for other, cheaper games. |

Jezzails are strongly believed to be 3 in a box. Currently 1 jezzail is £8.70 3 jezzails for £30 is £10 each This translates to a 14-15% price increase. While they switch to a cheaper material. Oh GW, you so crazy. (Lack of RAAAEG in this post is because I stopped buying GW stuff two years ago. I've voted with my wallet already, I'm just waiting for the rest of you to do the same. Though I'm quite happy to see that maybe, just maybe, the fanbase as a whole has reached 'tipping point' with the crap GW have pulled this month, and that GW's cadre of greedy coporate slugs are about too see a long-deserved drastic change in their fortunes.) |

I don't think so Stinkhair, not yet. I think things would need to get a few shades worse before people start deserting the GW side of gaming in numbers sufficiently large to affect sales, and therefore attitudes. GW have been pulling these rat droppings for years now, and yet enjoyed reasonable sales figures at a time when retail has been hard hit. They know that what they do, they do well. Everything the guys in the stores do is about cultivating a long-term hobby, retaining customers while making new ones. As bad as this sounds, I don't think they're going anywhere just yet..... Bob. |

But a rat can still hope.
Probably the sad truth. But all these small steps add up to a lot. I've been in this hobby since 2004, and in those 7 years I've seen prices for some miniatures rise 100% - My favourite example of this, 40k Cadian Shock Troopers have gone from 20 for £15 to 10 for £15, but they're exactly the same models as they were 7 years ago. It makes me sad that every time the prices rise, the overall response is 'I can take this one, but next time...' Step by step they've doubled the prices, and each time people have decided not to quit because, well, it isn't that big an increase, is it?
I would debate that. GW staff have their average sale value tracked. They are told to make big sales. They don't want a veteran gamer swinging by to pick up the couple of paints they need to continue with their army, they want some kid to drag their parents in and buy a baneblade and a stompa. I spent a summer hanging around a GW, and the staff's attitude was 'If you're not gaming or purchasing, get out'. I've not tried this in person, but also GW stores apparently now do not allow you to play Mordheim on their tables. Can you think of a reason why GW wouldn't want you playing one of their (better) games in their stores? It's probably because the Mordheim book is downloadable, free, and it is a low model count game that you don't have to blow hundreds of pounds on. But like I say. I'm not gonna get too involved. I've stopped buying GW products. I've certainly not recommended the game to anyone in the past few years. I make the occasonal 'gw are terrible' posts on forums. There's not that much else I can do. But, I have seen many 'GW Price Rise RAEG's in my time, and this one looks a little more pronounced than those before. |

Why U do dis?!
|
I've always tried to avoid buying GW stuff directly from the shop (or making my own ), but the increases to the model's prices are starting to get... insane. When I started the hobby, I could buy stuff with my meager pocket money at the time, and boxes would overload me with bits and pieces for conversion. It seems that extra pieces can be severely lacking, and the sheer number of makable model's are going down with each price hike. Unless there is some model which I have loved for a long time (since I avoid buying metal) I wont be buying anything finecast. If an independant stockist opened a shop within an hour of me by train, I'd probably never go to a GW. |
