@ sleboda. yes it does say that. however the rulebook clearly states that any shooting attack always hits the warmachine, not the crew. same problem with cannons hitting everything on a furnace. (even though we have the randomizing rule) |

Not what it says at all math under split profiles: "War machines have two profiles, one for the war machine itself, and one for the crew. You always use the Movement, Weapon shill, Ballistic skill, Strength, Initiative, Attacks and Leadership of the crew. the toughness of the war machine is used against ranged attacks and the majority toughness of the crew is used against close combat attacks" Where does it say it always hits the warmachine and not the crew? It says it uses the toughness of the warmachine. But the gaze says "substitute the target's toughness for its initiative"and "use the highest" Therefore, when targeting a war machine (a model with a split profile where you always use the stats of the crew except for toughness in ranged attacks, including Initiative), you choose the highest initiative of that target. They will tear up Lizards, other Undead etc. While not as useful as the other snake cav, the fact they tunnel and shoot the same turn will put the hurt on low Init Cav or units. Last game a unit of 3 popped up. shot. 10 CoR just vanished *poof* Edited by Batu, 31st May 2011 - 04:22 PM.

Even against high Initiative stuff, they are useful. I had mine wipe out a Salamander unit upon arrival last game. Sure, you need sixes, but every six you get is gold .... AND .... you bypass the roll to hit, so in the whole equation of to hit, to wound, then armor saves, the only one you have to worry about is the middle. It works out. |

of corse you also have 2 chances to misfire with them, first when they enter the field and later when the shoot at things. worse. each one has a chance to misfire. |

havent been on for a while... but yes i realised a long time afterward that a herald or whatever his name is can ride a chariot and benefit from the banner. however the banner costs a tidy sum and so would need a battle standard bearer to take it so you wuold need two heralds just to use it... when who would bother when princes are so much better.... extra wound and WS 5 for skellies and charioteers yes thanks. Im niot saying the TK book is that bad... but your talking about a rule book for a game played by hundreds of thousands of people and they make really silly mistakes like that. they should have had no restriction for the unit cost or size... i mean its not like it doesnt have risks. |

Saved my ass so far.... I take it for the entombed beneath the sands reroll you get, as well as bringing up skelly archers behind stuff to be in range of warmachines. And stalkers are amazing versus average troops (and I also kicked some ranked up ogre ass with them as well) In terms of current fantasy rules writing, its not that bad at all (though having to read carefully through the rulebook for the wording of "Casting Result" for the heirophant was a pain). Despite all my recent grievances with GW, that book turned out far in excess of what I was expecting, and the fluff is characterful and interesting. |
