Sooo, GW have announced a magickally related expansion pack for Warhammer that's due to be released in July. (Linky here: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?aId=16200020a) Apparently we can look forward to even more insanely powerful spells (why halve the number of models in a unit when you could wipe it out entirely?) that'll make our Dreaded 13th seem like a minor, amateurish party-trick that your mad uncle always does at Christmas. I'm also going to guess that the Winds of Magic will consist of more dice and that the miscast table may get even more spectacular. (Have the offending wizard turn into a horrible daemon controlled by your opponent? )I doubt that this expansion will be at all viable within a competitive setting but it should at the very least make for some highly entertaining games at the higher points values. Perhaps even making said games less frustrating to play with more chance of you being able to bring magic to bear across the board as more casters become viable. Also some new terrain and creatures of magic to come with it. This is all starting to sound very like the 'Magic' card game thingy. Summoning assorted fell beasties of the warp and all that lark. Ah well, GW were surely going to have a stab at one of their main competitors for the nerdy gaming market in the end. Still, may be some conversion possibilities in all of it. What does everyone else think? Sketch |

I like the sound of it, but then I am a magic junkie Like Dan says, as long as we get access to this new stuff I'll be happy; I can already see a bunch of warlocks gathered around some kind of super charged warp-power accumulater, releasing a warp-lightning storm across the entire field! Muahahahahaha! (If this happens now I'll be very happy)Interestingly they mentioned new Wizard models, perhaps we'll get a new Grey Seer and/or Thanquol? Who knows. And the new monsters will probably be good for some Moulder conversions. Like Sketch said, I'm definitely getting an MtG vibe: Scenery (Lands), Summoning Creatures, Big spells, e.t.c - which is fine by me since I enjoy that too (Go go Red/Blue Izzet )So yeah, at the moment, very optimistic Can't wait to see how they let me down

I have a feeling this is what the people on Warseer have been talking about for ages. Looks interesting should be fun to have some even more destructive magic.

I doubt this expansion will be a general something. Seems more like the lustria/ storm of Chaos book, having some cool new extra's to create a summer of rampage. But after the summer it simply some how trips in a botomless pit. Although it being some form of Warhammer Apocalypse sounds awsome aswell .My slaves are send into a warpstone gathering frenzy just to prepare for this. Flem, |

I'm more excited about the new terrain and models than I am about the new book, it sounds ridiculous to me that they would make more Uber spells, but I guess I shouldn't make any judgements on it until I read it.

I'd like to have it when you team up with someone, you dont get 12 dice to cast all your magic from. with 4 players, 2 sides and 3000 points each, magic is useless for one player

I'm going to wait this one out until more specific information gets released before I form my opinion. With the current cryptic description they've given us, this could turn out completely epic, as a miserable failure or anything in between. |

I wonder what exactly skaven will get for their spell upgrades (assuming GW does more than just they 8 brb lores). Maybe str 8 scroch with large template or plague that hits at str4 and has a higher chance of spreading to enemy units I also wonder what dwarves will get with this as they don't need monsters or magic. I guess they would probally get some sort of warmachine. I think it would be cool if they got mega charged runes or something. |

Am I the only one who thought: "Here we go: Apocalypse adapted for Fantasy" when he read the terms "expansion" and "massive army"? I don't know, to me it just seems like Granma Wendy is trying to get us to invest, once more, into larger armies... Not that excited, but I'll look forward to the release of the miniatures and monsters... |

Grey Seer - Summoner of Verminlords

I am actually wondering why GW would release something like this at this time in 8th edition. Wouldn't new army books/models make more sense instead of making some magic expansion? Sure some nice new monster models would be great but I think they should focus on getting the armies up to par for 8th ed before they start reworking spells/rules/etc. |

Storm of Magic can be used by everyone who plays WFB. New army books only apply for those that play the army. It may be selfish but I am all for delaying new army books for armies I don't play in favour of supplements I can benefit from

Going a bit off topic here, but bringing back sieges would have made more sense then rambling about everything having to become "bigger, BIGGER, BIGGER!" (perhaps a games developer trying to compensate for something? ). Although I reserve my comments on the subject until it is... you know... released, I will have to admit the thought of apocalypse for Fantasy did linger in the back of my mind. On the other hand, something like that would be coming anyway, considering the succes it has for 40k. (If it is suitable for Fantasy is another question, of course).Although I don't play, I am interested to see what they actually have cooked up, to see what direction Fantasy is going to take here...
