My blade shall cause your death

As a model it's good, as a unit no. I would never buy it because its expensive and not good in game terms. If only GW had made good rules for the Vermin lord it would have had such good potential but no. They ruined it and the potential of the model.

We can only pray that when storm of magic is released there will be a better Vermin lord option introduced with it. Would be fun to finally have a Vermin Lord that actually does something and not just dies from shooting.... Flem, |

GW always want profits and they can probably guess no one takes Vermin lords. To make them more profitable they will make them better. Not sure by how much but they should. It will still be weak to shooting or people will just say it's Overpowered.

True. But anyway, if the FW model turns out cool I'll get it. I'm not sure how any Skaven player, aside from economic concerns, could refuse a really cool FW Vermin Lord. Sure, it's stupidly big for gaming, but who cares. It's for the shelf. Although I guess that if people have more than one army their priorities might be different. I only collect Skaven so I want to have everything. |

GW proved where their model-loyalty lay when they opened-up the Land Raider Crusader up to all chapters to use, rather than just Templars. They haven't stopped since, nor will they. I remember having a somewhat heated debate once online (when their fragile egos allowed them to run an open forum), with a Games Developer who swore blind that profits would never make GW manipulate rules........yeah, what rat-droppings that proved to be. GW alter rules, and ramp-up the abilities or stats of things all the time to increase sales, and balance be blown.....so we well might be seeing some more reasonable stats for the VL, you never know. Whatever happens, I won't take the one shown in the pictures. The head looks too big cat, the horns make it look like a bloody goat, and it's too "fleshy", not enough muscle.... Bob. *Additional: I DO like the movement in the model, it's light years away from the static pose of the current model....so that's cool. Edited by Hellpit Bob, 23rd May 2011 - 04:01 PM.

If I had-had a warp token for every time I've heard someone slag a WiP model, and then change their tune-tune once it was finally released...

I'm not slagging it off, just giving my own opinion of it. I know it's WiP, so it may well improve to my liking.....if it did, and I had the funds, I might get it...that's freedom of choice, not hypocrisy. What I've typed is my personal take on how it looks NOW (since I cannot see into the future), and I totally understand that the piece is still evolving/in the design and manufacture phase. Bob. I don't think we are acting the wip it's the actual models stats and points cost that determine how viable some thing is

Off topic, but I don't know much about Black Templar lore, what is it about the Land raider Crusader that would prevent other chapters from adapting it into their own armies? It makes sense lore wise (I know, I know, we are talking about 40k here) to me that other chapters would use it. |

I kinda like the model so far tbh. Not really my picture of the Verminlord but I guess it could work out. The thing I'm really missing tho is the muscle and ratman side of it. Right now I see all to much of a horned mouse.... |

You miss the point Raz, the point is that it was a Templar-only tank, and available to use only in their codex. Then it was opened-up for use....and revenue!! Fluffwise, there's no reason at all that any other chapter couldn't use it. I'm glad they opened its use to others, and fervently hope they soon do the same thing with the Stormraven Gunship.
Thank you. That's what I see too mate. Bob. |

I don't understand why it has to look muscular, other than simply because of attachment to the old model's aesthetic. Skaven aren't finely-tuned specimens with chiseled physiques, and the avatar of their god shouldn't be one either. He should be a stinking, disgusting, diseased looking monstrosity. He's made of demonic matter, and that's where his strength comes from, not from musculature. |

Maybe Slide Shade, but don't you think that at least a passing nod to something warlike is needed for a model exisiting in a wargame? I'm not suggesting a link to the current model's aesthetic (a good point you make there), just a more warlike being, more inspiring, threatening......and obviously so, on the table.....rather than having that deadly awesomeness hidden in a more intellectual way. Wargames are all about obvious, aren't they? Bob. |

I hadn't thought of Hellpit Bob's point, but it's a good one: ultimately, this is a game of war, and so a giant bloated rat or mouse with horns won't cut it. Skaven are full of humor, but this looks like it could be out of a Monty Python sketch. At its worst, this looks "mostly harmless", which in and of itself brings up memories of Douglas Adams's mice. Hellpit Bob is right: a Vermin Lord should convey some menace! |

Considering I haven't used a Verminlord in game since 5th edition, so this isn't going to make any sense, but I'd probably like to get the model anyways. I have always really liked the old Verminlord model, I know it's not the most awesome model GW ever put out, nostalgic I guess. I really want to use him again competitively, but he's just got so many weakness I can't stomach him on paper. --Cap |
