I'm in doubt here. Just started a campaign with a Skaven warband, and after 2 games (1win/1loss) my assasssin gets a skill. But what to choose? We play with the experimantal warbands too, and I am not too familiar with those Orcs and Lizardmen I have seen, Possessed and Skaven I have met. I don't recall any humans, but at least 2 more teams are present. Chaos I think was one. Now the Skills I consider are: TailFighting (+1 attack if I buy assassin a second sword) Eagle Eyes (In order to mostly throw stars from outside charge range) Lightning Reflexes (with I5 most chargers will get a surprize) Step Aside or Dodge. (Ward save closecombat or missile) NigthClaws after 2 games Assassin Adept "Chi-May", Sword, Throwing Stars, Lucky Charm, Sling Eshin Sorceror "Grolsh", Sword, Sling, Lucky Charm, Rope&Hook Black Skaven "Leffe" , Sword, Throwing Stars, Lucky Charm. +W Black Skaven "Bino", Fighting Claws, Lucky Charm. Art of Silent Death Night Runner "Achel", Sword, Sling, Club, Lucky Charm. WallRunner Night Runner "Orval", Sword, Sling, Club, Lucky Charm. Rope&Hook. +T 2 Verminkin "Meatshields", Clubs. +WS 3 Verminkin "Bashers", Clubs, Slings. +Ld 3 Giant Rats "Darts" I also have a bit of gold (64) left. I plan to buy the WS4 verminkin some swords too. The Lucky Charms are something they all use, in the gaming group I joined, so I bought them mostly in order not to be left behind in that concern. Sorcerers magic is summoning D3 Giant Rats. |

The 5+ ward was always an essential skill in our group. Was always the first skill any of us took. |

Definately good ones WarlordSqueeek! Hear are a few I liked. Sprint turns them into the fastest creatures in the game. Eagle Eye, Hunter and Pistolier will increase its efficiency considerably. Academic skills such as Wyrdstone Hunter are great too. I would also advise to save up for Veskit definately a game winner IMO!! espically for only 80 gold crowns to hire; +35 gold crowns upkeep cost. Dunno if you have this link or not yet, hear it is just in case you don't http://www.mordheimer.com/tactics/t_skaven.htm It really has helped me out in the past. Good luck and keep us posted! |

In general, I try to get my characters to develop along a certain path, either that of 'the elusive camel' (ExterminatusNow joke), the martial artist, or the cowboy. Basically, either making them the hardest to hit, the hardest hitting, or the hardest shooting... In my experience, trying to make them all-round characters meant that once they got an injury or two, it would completely negate any advances they were given. Due to the higher WS, I tend to create martial artists out of assassin adepts. The combination of Art of Silent Death with Strike to Injure is just downright nasty, especially when field with a variety of combat weapons (though fighting claws just boosts the amount of attacks, making them even more lethal)... Getting people OOA is how to gain XP the quickest of an Adept, so taking him towards the combat path is (for me) usually the one way to develop him rapidly. Greetz |

Did I misunderstand something? Art of Silent Death only gives an extra attack, if you just have one. but my assassin has sword and dagger therefore already two attacks. As the book clearly states AoSD => count as having 2 weapons, unless using fighting Claws. The 5+ for making critical is nice though. |

Well no, looking it up, you gain one additional attack if you are fighting unarmed, or (when equipped with a set of fighting claws) you gain two additional attacks (instead of one for having two of them). The 5+ for critical hits is a very nice bonus on top of that. Looking back at what I wrote earlier, I would not advice taking Art of Silent Death, unless you are going to equip your Adept with fighting claws. Instead, the combination of Tail Fighting (+1 attack with a weapon), Strike to Injure (+1 on Injury rolls), Expert Swordsmen (re-roll ANY misses when charging when equipped with a sword), as well as step aside (an unmodified 5+ saving throw in combat is quite nice). Of course, if you want to finish your opponent rapidly, your first choices could always be Expert Swordsmen and Unstoppable Charge. Add Mighty Blow to that with Tail Fighting, you get a nasty Adept when rushing in. Greetz |

Nobody likes Lightning Reflexes? The ability to strike first (mostly) even when charged, would make me dare put him more up front. And in last game the Black Skaven with Throwing Stars was juuust out of range to hit. Most annoying. The Eagle Eye gives Assassin a S4 throw without moving or longrange penalties up to 12"

To be honest, if your Assassin Adept gets charged without you wanting him to be charged, you're doing something wrong in the first place (which reminds me that the correct order of skills ought to be Sprint and then followed by Unstoppable Charge, Expert Swordsman, Step Aside and Strike to Injure)... For players with low movement, Lighting Reflexes makes sense, but due to the high movement Skaven have to begin with, I personally find it to be something of a waste. Regarding the Eagle Eyes, I'd like to refer to my earlier post about my preference of aiming for single directions regarding advancements, instead of trying to make them all-round. (I generally give skills such as these to my Night Runners, who with their BS3 and in general sling-equipped have much more use of skills such as these). Greetz |

Game tomorrow. I'll go for TailFighting then, and find money for a second sword. Skipping the 3rd Giant Rat, as sorcerer summons at least 1. And I still suck at playing them  |

Stupid assassin miscalculated a situation, and got charged by a Saurus. 1 hit. Parry: failed Luckycharm: failed Wound. Yes Injury: dead Bah, humbug. Had enough gold to hire a new adept, who won first game but now has to wait over a game. At least with no injuries

You can't hire a new warband leader, if he dies he's gone. Losing my Carnival Master in the third game of our campaign was a bit of a bummer. |

Ouch... At least with Skaven you still have 5 other heroes even with the Leader slot gone. Just hope to get a promoted Henchman to fill the gap I guess. Your new leader is the hero with the highest LD, but you might suffer a bit as other Skaven heroes have maximum LD6 to start with. Your warband can survive this, but it'll be tough. -Blader |
