Ok, so I started out like many of the other rats here -- a friend gave me 2 boxes worth of IoB skaven. I have since purchased a box full of skaven from my LGS. I've cataloged everything I have and I'm listing it here. It's a pretty ramshackle lot, so I'd appreciate any tips on how to expand or trim it. I'm still experimenting a lot with army lists based on the models I have, mostly with the information I've picked up in these forums. ![]() Here we go: 2 Warlords 1 Grey Seer 1 Plague Priest 2 Engineers 1 WLC 4 Rat Ogres 2 Pack Masters 2 WFT 2 PWM 5 Jezzails 2 Globadiers 35 Plague Monks 10 Plague Censor Bearers 1 Doom Wheel 1 Plague Furnace 177 Clanrats Clanrats break down into the following: 5 Musicians 5 Standard Bearers 4 Champions 67 Spear + Shield 34 Hand Weapon + Shield 62 Old style clanrats, mostly with only handweapons I also got a metric eftonne of bits. Mostly heads, arms, weapons, etc for clanrats and plague monks. I have about 15ish bodies, mixed between a few more monks and clannies that I can build. If I could find cheap bodies, I could have a significant amount more of each. Those are the models that I currently have to work with. Any army list suggestions, or tips on what to buy next (other than the obligatory A-bomb ) would be most appreciated! Or just discuss the tactics I could use with what I have. I have a few lists that I've tried, to varying degrees of success. Thanks! |

I think he meant a second WLC, not two more ![]() Okay, what points level do you want to play at? Lets assume 2000 pts for simplicity sake... The list I like is.. Grey Seer BSB 2 or 3 units of 45 slaves (with naked engineers for Ld boosts) 30 clanrats with PWM or WFC 35 plague monks, plague priest, plague furnace, plague banner HPA 2 cannons (or 1 cannon and 1 doomwheel) To get that list, we need to make some slaves. Grab your 177 rats. Ignoring the heads and only looking at the torsos, seperate out armoured rat bodies from non-armoured rat bodies. You want the pile to be at least 50:50 clanrats to slaves. If you are willing to use paint to hide/rust up some of the armour that has some cloth drapped over it, you can get that ratio to 25:75 clanrats to slaves. Now take all the slave bodies that have helmets and cut those heads off. Then find all the extra plague monk heads and put them on the bodies. You have everything else you already need to start playing. |

I actually have a 2000 point tournament at my LGS coming up in 3ish weeks. I've been playing a bunch of games, trying to pin down a list, strat, and general play style that works for me. My previous army was Dwarfs, so there wasn't a lot of strategy involved. My units rarely ever broke from combat, I had Lords that rival the toughest in Chaos, and all I had to do was sit there and shoot the crap out of my enemy till they managed to get across the board. Playing Skaven is about the polar opposite. Clan Eshin is my favorite, though I don't have much success with them. But I enjoy the chaos that they can create by coming in from warp grinders or sneaky infiltrator. I also like lots of magic. So, I've taken the magic element and the chaotic element and came up with the following list: Grey Seer, 4+ ward talisman, +1 dispel staff Warlord, 4+ Ward Armor, Shield, Sword of Biting (kind of pointless, but I wanted some sort of magic weapon) Priest lvl 2 Priest lvl 2 Priest lvl 2 Chieftain BSB 50 Slaves w/shield + musician 50 Slaves w/shield + musician 30 Clanrats full command 30 Clanrats full command Doomwheel HPA w/warpspikes WLC My general strats is going to be thus: Seer will be Ruin. If I roll skitterleap naturally I will take 13th spell. If not, skitterleap has priority. Second priority is Death Frenzy. I will finagle each of the plague priests so that (hopefully, good chance of) one has plague, one has cloud of chaos, and one has vermin tide. I will begin skitterleaping the priests behind or to the side of the enemy on turn 1. Doomwheel and HPA will move up the flanks. Slaves move down the middle, flanked by clanrats a few inches back. Warlord and BSB move in the middle, protected by line of site, with the option of joining a unit if things get hairy. With luck, the enemy is going to have to make some tough choices. Dispel skitterleap, or save for the big spells? Go after slaves, or HPA or Doomwheel or WLC? I was torn over the warlord, but I don't want to miscast and blow up both my level 4 mage and my general all at once. Plus, it could be amusing to skitterleap him late in the game for a rear charge if combat isn't looking so hot for one of my units. Even if I don't win, should make for some interesting games. Problem is, I've played plenty of games, but all against High Elves (my best friend plays them now... used to be my dwarves and his orcs and goblins). So I'm worried that I'm neglecting the armies I haven't played against as Skaven. Hence me looking for help here. ![]() @ Paricidas: I've considered getting one of the new WLC models, since them look pretty sweet. Also, I <3 my WLC, and two will just be that much more love. @ chiaroscuros: I played a game with a list similar to what you posted earlier tonight. My friend, mentioned above, cast a spell that reduced their strength to one, and then proceded to cast a spell that made them take a strength test or die with no saves allowed. He cast with book of Hoeth and IF. Wiped out the entire plague monk/plague furnace unit on turn 2. They are in disgrace for the next few games. MUTATE: Also @ chiaroscuros: Thanks for the tips on converting to slaves, I missed that the first time around for some reason. I have plenty of plague monk heads, so I will get started on that
