Bell vs Watchtower and MR question

Question #1 - When assaulting a watchtower, how many models does the Bell/Furnace (unique) count as? What about a Warlitter (infantry) or Great Pox Rat (warbeast)? The rules specifically mention these models (monstrous infantry, monstrous cavalry, monstrous beasts, and monsters) and seem to assume that everything else counts as a single model.

In friendly games, I am leaning towards counting the Bell/Furnace as 3 models but by RAW, I think it counts as 1.

Question #2 - Magic resistance's rule is only for "damage caused by spells". Does miscasting count as damage from a spell?

This may be covered by the general FAQ but I can't find it.

Also, does MR work against spells that remove models with allowing saves?

Q1; It's 1 model (unless stated otherwise). If you want to play it as 3 I'm sure your opponent will appreciate it, but you don't have to.

IIRC: Being mounted on a pox rat changes it from 'warbeast' to being 1 model of 'monstrous cavalry'.

Q2; They covered it somewhere in the BRB FAQs, it is magic damage (for the purposes of etherals), but it is not able to be saved by magic resistance; (I guess) since it's not a spell as much as it is magical energy feedback.

Thanks, I just found it on page 4 of the general FAQ. I knew I had seen it somewhere...

It still seems odd that magic attacks aren't covered by MR, only spell affects.

Man, if magical attacks were protectable via MR; everyone-and-their-mother would be putting MR in all their units.

It would give more strength to mundane weapons (since you'd be robbing them of one or two ponts of wardsaves).

Yeah, if MR worked against magic weapons, our poor rats would suffer, we can put out a lot of magic weapon attacks, compared to most other armies who are usually limited to their characters.

Did you mean remove models without allowing saves? The answer is no it doesn't work. Magic resistance gives you a bonus to your ward save, and these spells (dwellers, purple sun etc) don't allow saves of any kind (armour, regen, or ward). If its a spell, and you can take a ward save against it, then you can use your MR.

Yep, fingers were moving faster than the brain behind them.

Thanks everyone for this clarification!

I guess I can't be suprised that MR is so limited since it is given to the whole unit.
