Hoping it gets ignored won't work - it has one wound and will be a magnet for arrows that otherwise wouldn't be likely to nab 55-points worth of kills. Your best bet is to keep it close to a parent unit for the ward + armor save. It's probably best to serve as a small hammer for a Clan Rat unit that wouldn't normally be able to rack up many kills, thereby allowing your rats to grind down the foe. Keep it within 3" of the parent unit, about an inch back from the front of the unit so it's less likely to get charged (d3 impact hits isn't much, but it's something). The biggest problem is I3, meaning most of the time (even on a flank charge) it will be killed before it delivers its artillery dice of S4 hits. It will fare better against slower foes, but then again slower foes almost always have T4. The bread-and-butter for this unit would probably be I3 humans; your Doomflayer WILL die against anything it charges, but being able to deliver its wounds could make it worth it. 55 points for a one-wound liability with small combat contribution is not my idea of a sound investment, but if I wanted to use it that's what I'd do. |

Small units of swordmasters love impact hits that go before their ASF. General rule for all chariots. Try to get a flankcharge or charge in simultaniously with the parents unit, so the that the doomflayer is only in BTB contact via the corners, that will prolong its life significantly (although not against the SM). |

The best way to use it IMO is with a stormvermin unit. If both units hit the same target you'll pack a serious punch. The best way of using one is within 3 inch of it's parent unit for a ward save like most ppl would say. But i'd advise you to take a storm Banner to keep it safe from shooting. Ok a 3+ AS and a 4+WS arn't bad but with T3 and one wound you're rather fragile. The best thing to use a doomflayer for IMO is to support charge on bigger stuff like Monsterous . They are slower and most don't havee a safe left. It works great against infantry aswell as support especially stuff like goblins, skellies, empire infantry. In most cases you'll see one round of combat do your damage and die. So try making up your 55 points ;-) Flem, |

I thought you rolled the number of hits when they attack as it only does D3 hits from impact? generally this means its dead against sword masters.... Unless I am missing some thing here... |

When i hit i try to have it be corner base to base so most opponents will over look it and direct all attacks against the larger parent unit to try negating flanks.

best use is with something else that hits... possibly with a warlords unit on a litter or something.. if possible on a flank and better if in the edge as mentioned... |

I love the doom flayer i've run lists with three of them in it and they almost always make points back, my opponents just don't direct attacks at them.

This has been stated, but it is very squishy. 1 wound doesn't do to well. However, the enemy won't focus on it much if there are other HUGE arrow soakers (ie:Doomwheel and HPA)
