Gutter runners have sneaky infiltrator anyway, so why spend the extra points on a warp grinder? Just curious. If you're fighting dwarves, I can tell you what to expect, as I used to play them. You're going to get shot at. A lot. Quarrelers or Thunderers, and cannons. It will suck. Chances are he won't even bother to move his melee, or only move/wheel them into position. Once you do get into melee, if you do not have flank your rats will get the snot beat out of them. A few strats that may (or may not) help: -Use slave units to lock down his melee. You can then fire into them, or come around his flank with clanrats. -Slaves could also be taken in longer units with less rank to deny his LoS, depending on the terrain. -If you can't flank with the doomwheel or clanrats, try skitterleaping your warlord behind a unit of his melee for the extra CR. -If one of his units has an oathstone, do not engage it. Use spells or WLC or doomwheel. That's about it. Remember, slaves are there to get killed. Bring extras along.

the 40 slaves i am planning on using in a horde formation - dont know whether this is the right move though. is it worth equiping slings to slaves if im going horde? as for the grinder - ive made a model and fancied using it if im honest - and i was trying to figure out what to spend more points on. also will i need to hurriedly assemble some Stormvermin for a Stormbanner if im going to get shot alot? what about the equipment on heros/lords? i could do with all the help i can get |

When talking about slaves, nothing is really worth the points. They're expendable, and pretty much worthless except for their tactical value. They absorb damage, block LoS and tarpit enemy units. A BS of 2 wouldn't get you many hits, especially considering your modifiers for long range and moving + shooting. Slings basically raise the point cost of slaves by 25% -- points which are better spent on more slaves. I usually take small blocks (20ish) because I'm a big fan of fleeing from charges. Some people prefer big blocks (30, 40, 50+) to hold up enemy units for multiple turns. I don't think stormvermin will really do you much good against dwarves. The points for the unit and banner outweigh its usefulness, as it will most likely be dispelled right off the bat. If you want a banner, I suggest Underempire or Dripping Death. I would also get rid of the warpstone armor in favor of Armour of Silvered Steel. Screaming bells are really nice against dwarves, though I suppose it would be hard to fit into a 1500 point game. Either way, have fun and let us know how it went

just thinking to myself earlier - would it make better sense to use a PWM rather than a Doom flayer? |

If they are going to sit back and wait for you to cross the table (common dwarf strat) then the PWM could help do some damage. Doomflayer will probably only see one round of combat before it dies, but packs a punch for that one round. Still, I'd base it on how much luck you have with aiming the PWM. |

well i guess i'll soon find out - suppose if we have a couple of games i can test out both. i know he's running quarrelers, warriors, longbeards, runesmith and a cannon, says if he can squeeze thunderers in he will |

That shouldn't be much of a problem. Warriors and longbeards aren't his strongest units by far. Not that much better than clanrats. You should be able to beat them by combat res with fully ranked clanrats w/ standard. Especially if you have spears for the extra attacks. I'm surprised he doesn't have at least one other warmachine. And runesmiths are not difficult to take out. I would have expected a thane for that point value game. Try to kill the cannon, and his runesmith. The gutterrunners should be able to take out the cannon at least, possibly move on to attacking the quarrelers in the rear. All in all, shouldn't be too bad. |

well had a couple of battles with my mates dwarves couple of lucky spells spell choices with ended up with scorch and skitter and warp lightning across my casters managed to drop around 17 of his warriors with a scorch but he dropped most of my BSB unit with his cannon and grudge thrower on the first turn :S went to the last turn before my jezzails nailed enough to make his longbeards panic but think it was my last ditch attempt to salvage something Second battle mostly the same - chopped and changed but had enough to squeeze my Grey Seer in and drop some banners and warlock etc WLC carved a path through the side of a horded thunderer unit left them with 10 that got "13th" Warriors took some crushing Scorches Jezzails putting holes in longbeards before they were held up by slaves for a turn then the WLC cut through that too by turn 6 there was 4 Jezzails, 3x GRs, WLC, 20 Clannies, and the 10 13th Quarrellers so 1-1 to start my career

Grats, not bad at all. ![]() Though, of course, what matters most is that you enjoy playing with your army. Skaven can be testy, but I love em. |
