Ok cause im awesome at small games hear we go. its against vampire counts so its no lord for him. he needs to have a vampire so its no other character for him he cant be a level 2 vampire and he only has 25 points to spend on items. most of which will probably be avatar of death (heavy armour and either gw, ahw or shield) - thats if he's smart. at that points value he cant fit in any of his rare choices but he can have some special. Rat ogres ar a pritty solid choice in this small points. most stuff they will go first against, they're frenzied so do have to test for fear, and he has no shooting so they should be fine. the list i would suggest: Warlord charmed shield (mainly protection for your general) plague priest (there for the +1 to dispel) flail potion of speed (used if u get into combat with the vampire to give you the edge) scrying stone 20 clanrats shields musician standard bearer 20 slaves musician 3 rat ogres 2 packmasters total: 499 this should give u a faily big and good force, put the priest in the rat ogres at let them go off on a rampage. the priest is there for anti magic and also to cast a spell a turn hopefully even if it is only pestilent breath. always challange the vampire and drink the potion on the turn you charge. if he fields spirit hosts be carefull and try and beat them with magic or but tieing them down with slaves. |

I'm actually going to disagree with james100 on this. It seems like in small point games, skaven excel at outnumbering their opponents. If you were to take out that unit of rat ogres and the packmaster, you would be able to throw in a clanrat unit with a WFT. If I recall, units have to take a break test if a single unit is wounded by the WFT. Having his only units flee would prove to be fairly amusing. Also, I believe that if they are hit with flaming attacks, his guys cannot come back to life. |

Well il have to disagree with your rob. the WHOLE army is Immune To Psychology so no panic and flaming attacks mean nothing in this small games because undead really dont have anything that can regenerate wounds back. flaming attacks doesn't mean they cant be healed by magic. also in this small game if a warpfire gets hit by magic or explodes that what 14% of your army gone suddenly when rat ogres are harder to kill than weapon teams and beat vampire counts infantry easily except ghouls they are just about even. |

James is right. All undead are Immune to psychology, and flaming only affects regeneration (which there will be none of at this points level). And at 70 points it is a huge points sink. In general I will say that James' suggested list seems very good for this battle, though you might consider giving your warlord a magical weapon if you have a strong suspicion of seeing spirit hosts. Otherwise, this game should not be a problem. VC core troops have horrible stats, and clanrats should be able to beat them quite easily. |

Clanrat
|
I just fought a 500 point battle against vampires a few weeks ago. My opponent had: vampire with the flayed hauberk 5 black knights 2 units of ghouls (was 14 or 15 per unit) I took: chieftain with sword of battle and charmed shield 24 clanrats with hand weapon and shield 25 clanrats with hand weapon and shield 40 slaves 2 rat ogres with packmaster I'm not all that experienced, and we made a few errors during the game (was an intro game for him, and I've only played a few times). But here were my lessons: I screwed up with the slaves, ended up with them in the woods and they died quick Ghouls tear through rats easily Knights are hard to kill with rats Ogres can be really dangerous, but once the ghouls swing back, forget it My chieftain stood toe to toe with his vamp, and neither wounded the other (unit broke and was ran down, so no second round). One of my rat ogres killed the vampire, but the return hits by the ghouls, with poisin, killed one, ran them off the table. The clanrats killed one knight in 3 rounds of combat, and only survived against them because the vampire's death crumbled them. So I'd definitely be prepared for soaking up lots of wounds from the ghouls, keep rat ogres away from them, and try to take out one unit at a time (or he'll just keep raising back the casualties). That's my thoughts. |
