The new 8th edition includes Lores of Magic. I was curious if we are limited to our own magic or if we have access to these lores.

Also, can we pick from the common magic items, or are we limited to our own magic items and scavenge pile?

Im pretty sure we are trapped to our own lore (granted they are really cool)

And for items you can take items from the core book (when it says we can grab "common magic items") but if the item is listed in our book and the core book, we have to take our books price even when the price is higher. Thats to show that different races have different access to different items. (i think we should get them all cheap, Eshin can jsut steal them for us :) )

Regrettably We are stuck with skaven magic spells.

I would prefer some of the other laws of magic personally.

Agree with both above.

The only way we can get access to the new lores is by giving a warlord the Wizard's Hat common item, but that's even more random than our Skryre machinery! Oh, and the Ruby Ring common item if you want the low level fireball.

I have actually tried the wizarding hat and it is not as dumb as it seems. Although you want some lores more than other all of them is usable on a side. Even metal against WE could be useful if used right.

In the game I had with it I got light (Banishment and pha's protection) and it worked fine there.

I don't bother if it is random and the stupidity could also serve well with immune to psychology. :o

I think it is worth a try for most people :)

wizards hat could work well since a seers ld is 7, re-rolled if you are near the bsb which are a must have anyway. but is it really worth 100 points since it wont add any more to the wizard level?

In 5th edition; we had access to other lores, like shadow; but now we're locked in with Skaven (and the wizard's hat, but that's not really a 'competitive' choice; fun though it is).

Not only that but it'll actually reduce the seer's level, I'm pretty sure the hat overrides any pre-existing wizardry. So really it's for the warlord or nothing.

that makes a naked warlord with a random spell school only 50 points cheaper than a lvl 4 seer with access to two schools.
all in all a fun but expensive item.

Yep, but at least the warlord has armour and beefier stats than a normal wizard.
