You can't really hide the fact that your warlord has the felblade either, the secret only stays secret until the end of your turn

Well, not really, just make sure SOMEONE sees you roll the dice and knows whyyou're rolling it so they can vouch for you.

We DO play skaven, we're expected to have some tricks up our sleeve.

Mounts fight in the challenge alongside the character, so if the HE killed the warlord then there would be nothing for the dragon to strike at because his target is dead.

But if the warlord is in a unit then the dragons attacks and Thunderstomp would still have to be rolled for for purposes of overkill adding to combat resolution.

It's one thing to see your leader get chopped up in to little bits, but far more frightening to see him chopped up, burned to a crisp, stomped on and then eaten.

Also dragons cause terror so even your warlord on a Bonebreaker will have to take a fear test and might be attacking at WS1

Umm... No. You fight in initiative order.
If the HE character manages to killed the Warlord by himself, then the combat is over since both the Warlord and the dragon has worse initiative.

Yup, Page 103 of the SRB under "Challenges and Mounts". It *should* be able to mutilate then make the warlord into paste, but instead the dragon just sits back and does nothing for the rest of that round of combat.
