Warpstone Armour states that it can be taken by an Engineer Engineers can be upgraded to use magic. 1) can I give Magic Armour to an Engineer and then upgrade him to a Wizard for Dispelling and Channeling? 2) seeing as the Warpstone Armour states the Engineer can take it can he cast spells in it? 3) If #1 is yes, then can I use Worlds Edge (or is it End?...no book on hand) and once the armour is broken, can the Engineer cast spells? thanks yet again Skaven Newb |

Does it ever say anywhere that giving the Warlock Engineer armor negates his ability to cast spells? I can't say I've seen that written anywhere. |

Core Rule Book, in the Ref for Magic Armour states that a Wizard can't cast if its in Magical Armour if it lacked a armor save to start. |

Under 8th a non-wizard engineer can take magic armour freely, so the exception clause means nothing. If the warlock is upgraded to a wizard, then he cannot choose magic armour; but Warpstone armour has the exception. So, a non-wizard engineer can have any magic armour, while a wizard engineer is only allowed warpstone armour. The 'magical interference' rule actually just says wizards can't select magic armour, not that it stops them being able to cast (that's just part of fluff). So, 1) No, 2) Yes

So you cant pull the old wargear then upgrade(or the other way around if it works that way) trick that you can sometimes pull in 40k, thanks for the heads up |

Fluff-wise I really think they should be allowed to take armour. It says in the army book that they never differentiate between science and sorcery. And since they cover themselves in wires and gears surely bolting a few plates on wouldn't distract him any more would it? The Skaven spells of Ruin aren't exactly the stuff of dreams or nebulous imagination either and I know that if I was going to be channelling Warp Lightning I'd want to make damn sure I had a very effective Faraday cage! I suppose I wouldn't mind so much except that most Warlock Engineer models are depicted as wearing armour. Take Ratchitt for example. I also wish they were allowed to have weapon options including halberds and additional hand weapons. Still, rules are rules. Sketch |

if models had to go by WYSIWYG the IoB Engineer would be outlawed because of the 11-8-10 FAQ v1.3 and the 2 magic weapons. However, I would like to see a rule that states if upgrading happens prior to wargear |

@hotwarplead Oh, I'm not saying that we should stick rigidly to WYSIWYG. Such a system would be monstrously impractical if not downright impossible. I'm just pointing out it's interesting that the sculptors visualise them with armour and yet we still don't have an option for it. Although now that I think about it I don't think Ratchitt actually casts any spells in the book so maybe he is the non-magic engineer type of Warlock? <_< Hmm. Oh well, this kind of thing is bound to happen if you dig too deep into fluff. I still stick by my points though. Sketch |

Maybe it's, err, urm, a warp-field amplification chest plate, yeah... complete with an, urm, arc reactor, apparently . Looks like armour but it's made of thin sheet metal, so not very durable...
