Half inspirited by new models, half by the want to create a better list, I have come up with this new variation of my previous list based on advice from both the Underempire and Dakka. I have to say I like this version variety as opposed to the previous lists Skryre nature. Anyways enough of my rambling and on to the list. As normal I would appreciate any and all comments and criticisms. Right now the only thing I’m unsure about is whether I want the Storm Banner on the BSB or in the Monk unit. Any ideas on that one? Spell-wise its all Plague with the Priest rolling first to mitigate the Seer’s rolls.

Nothing after two days? Huh, holidays must still be in effect to much. A thought occured to me with this list. Would it be better to run the gutter runners in the one ten man unit or two five man units? |

All looks pretty good. (no slaves???) If you want to use the last 3 points, you can drop the enchanted shield, buy a regular shield, by the helmet in the BrB that gives the +1 to armour and 2+ ward to flaming attacks. essentially you are gaining 2+ ward for flaming for 3 points. |

Really? What do they do for me that clanrats can't achive just as well? Clanrats gives me bodies and a banner, which I need at this points level. At 2500, they need to knock my fortitude down by four to win. Drop a rat block and its down to three, so the general's units goes away and pof I'm gone. Where do you propose I find the points for those slaves? |

Use Clanrat units of 30 instead of 40, and drop the Plague Monks to 30 as well. This gives you 80 points you can use for 40 Slaves. You may or may not want to swap a WLC with an additional unit of 40 Slaves. |

Slaves don't cause panic. Slaves are way cheaper than clan rats or are easier to keep in the +3 leadership and in the steadfast bonus (giving you longer to position your other units). Having more slaves means your clan rats will take less casualties (because they'll be screened). Skaven fight in waves. It looks like you've got 1, maybe 2 waves depending on your deployment. Any elite unit can (and will) blow through clan rats just as fast as they do slaves; if your enemy only has to go through 1 wave of rats they'll win; make them go through 3 waves of rats and you're making them play a war of attrition, something Skaven should always win. This is Skaven; quality vs quantity is not an argument; quantity always wins ('skaven quality' is a pipe dream). Lol
Warplightning Cannon or Magic Items (I've stopped using the WAW and started using the Sword of Might; -25 points for the loss of 1 strength 5 attack? I've never missed it) or Some Weapon Teams; radical scattering and only wounding on 5+ isn't as great as everyone thinks it is. --Cap |

Here is a newly redone version of the list after some thinking during the holiday. Added in two big slave blocks. On to those throwers I could drop some slaves to get one and maybe put some musicians in to those slave blocks. does 40-45 slave blocks work? Lords: -Warlord, War-litter, Shield, Sword of Might, Dragonhelm, Talisman of Preservation-203 -Grey Seer, Power Scroll-275 Heroes: -Cheiftain, Shield, BSB -72 -Plague Priest, Lvl1, Flail, Plague Furnace-254 Core: -30*Clanrats, shields, standard+musician, poisoned wind mortar-212 (5by6) -30*Clanrats, shields, standard+musician, poisoned wind mortar-212 (5by6) -30*Clanrats, shields, standard+musician, poisoned wind mortar-212 (5by6) -50*Slaves-100 (5by10) -50*Slaves-100 (5by10) Special: -29*Plague Monks, Standard, Storm Banner-263 -5*Gutter Runners, Slings, Poisoned Attacks-90 -5*Gutter Runners, Slings, Poisoned Attacks-90 Rare: -Hell Pit Abomination-235 -Warp Lightning Cannon-90 -Warp Lightning Cannon-90 Total=2497 Fortitude=7 |

40-45 blocks will work. I found myself wanting just 1 more round of combat out of them, which the extra rank on my units of 40 would have sufficed. So I bumped them up to 45/46, contemplating going a little higher (but points are squeezed so very tightly in the list I run). The list you've built is very similar to the one I've grown accustomed too. Keep your slaves out front, let them whittle down the enemy some (they won't win combat, but who cares?, they're just supposed to hold up the enemy), then position your clanrats and PM for sweep-up/ second wave/ flank duty. Warlord's the exact same, Seer is the same (pscrolls are outlawed in tournaments here i took skalm instead) Plague Priest same (+ the Iron Cross) Bsb same (+2 MR stone (thinking about bumping to mr3)) 3 Clan Rat blocks (36/30/30) 3 Slave Blocks (46/45/45) 3 single Giant Rat drops 3*(5+1pm) 32 Plaguemonks + Storm Banner 2 x 6 Gutter Runners fully kitted Cannon Abom --Cap |

Power scrolls are considered "taboo" at my place. Most op item in the game currently (arguably of corse) but the list seems fine to me. Only things I see wrong potentially is the plague furnace. Every time i take one i get used to watching it get shot up by cannons (which your storm banner will help against) but it still tends to drop very fast. I dont take warlords myself but if i did thats pretty much how i would have tooled him. The reason you take 2 smaller units as opposed to a 10 man unit of gutter runner is because of "give away" points. If you take a 10 man squad it will last longer and and take more shots. but in the case were the unit has a 6+ ward. You want to take 2 smaller units so that your opponents shooting cant kill all of them. simply because he can only choose one or the other to shoot. |

I really don't see the attraction of the plague furnace for so many people with Plague monks, without a save on the furnace and killing your own units ( im all for but not in high numbers and cost like monks) the shooting attack is a once in ten games use. Sure it makes the unit unbreakable but what i can stop with monks and furnace i can redirect for 1/3 the cost with slaves and make my opponents death star unit useless until at least turn three and if done right i can make it last longer. turn one movement, turn two charge hopefully staying from stubborn, turn two or three killing off the unit. If by this time i don't ahve more units into the sides or back im doing something wrong. Or if im not ready for the counter charge or have two set up of my own. I like the rest of your list but for the 413 point from not taking both units you can take a smaller unit of SV with the Storm banner and to work as flank gaurd and be left with a ton more points to drop into Giant rats, a WE with doom rocket, or any other combo of inexpensive effective units. For tournaments and for skaven putting 1/5 of your army into one unit and losing that unit could be a game decider, where as if all your units are around the same point cost it will be much harder to wipe clean 1/5 your army. Now with the new rules being you must wipe out an entire unit to get points skaven have a huge advantage from clanrats being so cheap and coming in larger numbers or multiple units. Not telling you how to play a list just personally have never had good results from the furnace or monks in 8th due to no armor/ parry/ high cost, and without the plague banner. Also you are sticking one of your two casters on a big target without any protection of any kind. As to answer your original question if your not going to put the Storm Banner on your BSB i might find a way to protect him at least with warp armor or worlds edge. it gives him a 3+ armor and parry at least. I don't like putting banners on my BSB so if your going to keep the plague monks i say leave the storm banner on them or get rid of it all together. What turn do your normally activate the banner on if your opponent has first turn? |

I like it. Weapon Teams, WLCs, Clanrats and Slaves. The army has diversity, there is really no huge point sink (besides the Monks/Furnace), and it can do well in each phase of the game. Make your units all equally un-appealing to shoot/cast at. My opinion would be to put the Warlord, Chieftain, and Seer each in their own Clanrat unit. Your opponent will be scratching his head wondering which one to shoot/cast magic at, if he isn't targetting your Monks/Furnace, that is. |
