I see your points, but what I really wanted from my (first) skaven army was a massive infantry army, and not so much of the huge warmachines, HPA's etc etc. So i am probably gonna stick with this list for the first few games, and then start tweaking, and tweaking... And of course tweaking ;)

Personal taste and fluffy lists should be encouraged, but you are intending on not playing to our army's strengths.
Without the whacky, huge, destructive warmachines/monsters we only have below average infantry and some gizmos. I beleive our army can't shine only through rank-and-file.

Agreed!! If we could get access to magic that helps our assaults or hurts theirs... we would be in great shape with our cheap troops.

But plague into assault is as good as it gets...

So at best, our troops can use delay tactics while we pound on them with shooting and magic.

Our army can absolutely function strictly on the shoulders of rank and file troops and combat. It requires a different tactical mindset, but essentially you force the enemy into a war of attrition. In order to do so, you must truly outnumber your enemy (both models and units) to where you have the tactical advantage of assaulting the flanks, and can seperate his units from supporting eachother (drawing units off course, using movement lanes and locking them into combat with steadfast units).

Numerous warmachines, multiple shooting units and/or loaded up magic are not the only ways to gain victory with Skaven.

Do you have some battle reports I can read? I am very interested...

Right. Aside from all you guys great advice, i had a friend of mine look over my list (He won the Danish Giant Fanatic with Skaven), and he completely agrees with you. I should add some more firepower, be it magic or mechanical.

So based on all this i revised the list (again) It now looks like this:

Lords & Heroes:

Grey Seer Squeek: Power scroll
275

Chieftan Squeelk BSB
BSB,Talisman of endurance
100

Warlock Engineer Tweek
15

Core:

2x40 Slaves (Musician)
164 pts

30 Clanrats
Musician, Standard Bearer, Shields, Poisoned wind mortar
188

30 Clanrats
Musician, Standard Bearer, Shields, Spears,
142

30 Stormvermin
Musician, Standard Bearer, Storm Banner,
277

Special

30 Plague Monks
Musician, Standard Bearer
225

2 Warplightning Cannons
180

1 Hell Pit Abomination
235

2000 pts total

Naked Warlock Engineers are great, especially as leaders for units of Skavenslaves, where for only 7 points more than a Pawleader you get a higher WS, a higher BS, an extra Wound, and a Ld of 5 instead of 2! True, the Warlock Engineer only gets one attack, but he's still well-worth the points.

Plus, he can carry magic items: I always use a near-naked Warlock Engineer to carry a Doomrocket. In a low-level game, I'll throw in a Warlock Engineer as a spellcaster, but without spells, he's a great, dirt cheap ultra-useful all-purpose unit leader and item carrier.

Ok, but he can only lead one of both units. I suppose I hate assimetry
Anyway, they are good magic item caddys, but in this case he has no item equiped.

Well, i do suppose that a doomrocket would be great, but I have no idea where to get the points xD Besides it's better to boost one slave unit than none ;)

if you really just want an impressive looking horde get one... though be carful what you wish for... i am still yet to paint most of my army... lol.

3 or 4 units of 60 slaves ... 4 would be 480pts... 3 units of 30 clannies... 360... 2 units of 40 stormvermin... 560...

thats 1400 so far and almost 400 models.

then 2 warlords and a BSB and cheiftain...

thats a big army to try and kill. even without the toys.

if i run with warpstone armour make it worth it. put lord on warlitter for extra save and increase incoming attacks. and give him a shield and dawnstone ... then a basic magic weapon with flaming or increased strength. he should cost about 160 or 170 points and have a rerollable 2+ armour save and about 8 or more S4 or more attacks plus those inflicted by the armour.

you can take the other warlord on a bonebreaker to make him a killing machine or just on foot.

give a chieftain something fun like the talismen they have to take a leadership test or not charge or something...

That's getting to be a pretty good list. However, I'm not feeling the plague monks. I haven't played a ton of games with Skaven yet, but I have learned that those monks are going to just bounce off most infantry.

I don't like to take PMs without at least a a plague priest on foot to add a little more firepower. That's just my preference, and maybe you shouldn't listen to me. However, PMs are almost a waste of points without the plague banner. PM's have no saves, and are going to take a lot of casualties. The plague banner helps you win combat and keep those frenzy attacks coming.

Well. The basic plan of the PM's was to use them along with a unit of CR or slaves, just as the plan is with the SV's :) Think "Hammer & Anvil" type og strategy
