Hey all. My friend recently started playing warhammer and (unlike me) made a smart first army choice with Oger kingdoms. We've played a couple games now and while I won by out manourvering him, it was rayther hard. This got me thinking of good lists / tactics aginst Ogers, and I would like your opinions.

First off let me tell you what my friend usualy runs. He likes to use A tyrant with giantbreaker, a bruser with seigebreaker, 12 bulls, 5 ironguts, 4 lead beltchers, 3 maneaters, and a slave giant. As you can see he has no buchers so I want to take advantage of my magical supeiriority.

I was thinking of running a furnace for bless with filth and/or wither. Brass orb and lightning to take down the slave giant and because the lighting can easly kill a bull a turn. Storm vemin for their high inish and wounding on 4+. And lastly Rat oger to taunt him :D .

One thing that I am woried about is his seige breaker vs. my furnace.

Questions, coments and sugestions are all welcome.

Take a warp-lightning cannon or two, aim about 8 inches short of the target unit and watch it die in a blast of green energy :KA-BOOM: Even a S4 direct hit on any unit of ogres will take a considerable toll thanks to D6 wounds and no AS caused by both the beam and the blast of the firing weapon. Just position them away from one another so that enemy gorger (should one be present) cannot overrun from one to another.

Also, scorch is gorgeous against the brutes thanks to their low LD values. However, I would not bother with the plague claw catapult, too few hits to really make the difference.

And OK is one of two armies (the other being Bretonnia) that I would consider taking jezzails against - both armies are relatively low in terms of numbers on the battlefield, and every hit hurts them pretty badly.
Doom, doom, all is doom, all is ruinous.

A blood curling cough a day, keeps the assassins away

Against ogres anything that causes multiple wounds is your best friend. A fire thower, a cannon or a doomwheel.
Another advantage of the WFT is that it causes a panic test, ogres don't have superb Ld, just the average like man-things.

If you want to abuse your magic go for cracks call , ogres tend to fall down the crack quite easy with their I2.

Gutter runners with poisen slings are also a big advantage against ogres. Ogres don't have alot of saves and die quickly because of the poisend shots, same for the slave giant.

I wouldn't advice StormVermin but monks, they get more attacks. When having the re-roll to wound and hit banner they will slash up those ogres woth a lower I. Rat ogres are a great way of handeling the smaller units, or units that have lost some numbers already.

most of the best advice has already been given... i would advise against a furnace...

try censor bearers... and i would go for a doom wheel rather than cannon... main reason? its more fun.... and you dont want to be a complete bastard... lol.... also eliminates the use of a gorger if everything is moviong forward.

warlord on litter would be good... any weapong that increases your stength... also give him plenty of armour and try to avoid his characters.

with the censor bearers target flanks and small units... they will go down like you wouldnt believe.

unless they have FAQ it i would move forward to him quick... to prevent his impact hits...use your doomwheel/s and even hit a bull unit stright in the face... they will need 6s to wound and you cause fear to them... also the lighting if lucky should kill 2 or 3 and impact hits at least another one...

of course as usual flanks are better.

make sure you challenge with your unit champions... so he is only doiing overkill and not tearing up your units.

and of course use slaves... other than that i wouldnt worry too much about them...

They're expensive low armor multi-wound models, so:

Warp-Lightning Cannon- small template and D6 wounds, you screw ogres fiercely
Doomwheel- D6 wounds, really good
Warpfire Thrower- you can hit ~6 Ogres, wich you wound on 3+ and then D3 wounds, that is 4 wounds, time D3 is ~8 unsaved wounds, almost 3 Ogres !!

What could also work, is an assasin with warpstone stars in a gutter runner w/ poison sling unit, you'll kill a lot of them, and those warpstone stars can easily kill ogres and maybe even the giant.
I'm just like you, just sexier and smarter ^^

As a Skaven and Orge player all I have to say is why doesn't he run a butcher?

Gut Magic is one of the best Lore's in the game, is your friend insane?

Also, yeah, Ogre's fall like little girls to anything that causes wounds to multiply, so aside from what else has been said arm a warlord with a Weeping Blade and go nuts.

Everyone should take a lvl4 so punish him for it.

Make sure you have a seer and 2 doom wheels. Probably only instance where doom wheels are good these days.

The general rule for me is to point any zappy-lightning-thing things at the multi wound targets. Multiplying wounds=godsend. As mentioned, WLC is sweet. Personally, I would take 2 WLC and a doomwheel and use all your other points to create a swarm of clanrats/slaves to "stabalize" the ogres and keep em in place to shoot at them.

Hmmm jezzails and warp lightning cannons.
warlock engineers lvl 2 magic.
rat ogres for CC.
weapon teams.
some gutter runners with a assasin to throw warpstone stars atleast 4wounds with the gutter runners and assasin. maybe a warplock pistol for the assasin?
Screaming bell is worth it points. :)
Plague censer bearers.
AND OFF COURSE THE DOMWHEEEL!!!!!!!
Pretty hard hitting units.

Systematic concentration of fire. One unit at a time. Starting with the highest damage output ogre units.

As far as shooting goes, everything counts. Wound-multipliers (WLC, WFT, warpstone stars, infernal bomb) plus slings and throwing stars, and death globes against large units where the coverage should be good. Plus brass orb (great agains low initiative ogres).

Everything else in your army (slaves, hopefully) ties up the rest, so they can get theirs, in turn. Get in his face from the outset to restrict movement and leadbelcher targetting options, and negate bull charge. Plus you can spring the weeping blade and other combat nasties on isolated units (e.g. giant).
Mostly harmless
