Get them released ASAP. The quicker you can do it, the further away from your battle line they will be, and the closer to theirs they will be. Some games I've seen fanatics cause more problems for my opponent than myself. I've played against them plenty of times, don't be scared, because they are more of a psychological weapon. Our big blocks of cheap infantry can handle them easy. I can see other elite armies having some trouble with them, but skaven should do fine, just keep those night goblins away from our heavy hitters. Skitterlept engineers do work the best. |

Warplock pistols on your characters should be able to take care of fanatics. Chieftans have bs 4 and assassins can plunk them with bs 5 throwing stars. |

if you roll doubles for movement on fanatics on any turn after they are released they die. Also if they hit ANY terrain feature or another fanatic they die. I've found that fanatics in 8th aren't nearly as worrisome simply because of all the terrain, unlike 7th where it was fairly scarce. Are you playing with the recommended amount of terrain (D6+4 I think)? One other tactic is simple placement of such - it may cause a dangerous terrain test for you but does protect you from fanatics quite well. |

I got some green felt from a discount store up here, 3 feet of the stuff for $1.20, cutt into 5-6" goofy lookin patterns and presto! instant forest. Trees from train stores word just as well as GW's and are 1/3 the price sometimes. brown or grey felt over a book or 2 = instant hill! I know my wife is getting me a fortified manor house, and a fortress set for christmass, so I'm looking foreward to using those goodies in the weeks to come, but we made some temporary buildings out of cardboard and card stock with popsicle sticks for extra support that don't look horrible. |

You guys don't know the rules for fanatics that well. If you skitterleap withing 8" of a night gobbo unit with fanatics they get released instantly scattered. It's supposed to scare the unit or something and they roll the scatter dice instead of choose the direction. |

I pretty sure when they are initially released, the O&G player picks the direction, any direction, they don't even have to aim them at the unit that triggered the release. They only use the scatter dice in the compulsory movement phase in the turns after they are released. |

The random release was in the last book, not the current one (at least current until the new book comes out in march). I remember many games when I played O&G against my son playing VC (both using their previous books) when he would summon ghouls on the first turn popping my fanatics before I even moved back among my own lines. Less of an issue now that you can control the direction, but still pretty effective to get the fanatics out on the opponents side of the board instead toward your battle line. |

cheap hills go to home depot (or your local DIY store) pick up some of the blue or pink sheets of styrofoam insulation and playground sand cut out some circles (or whatever shape hills you want) layer them up glue on sand and paint also works well for any lightweight and inexpensive gaming surface to sit on the dining room table or what have you |
