AreYouThreateningMe

Hi, as a Dark Elf player that just started playing Skaven a month ago I must say I'm having a blast. ^_^

Just a few things that have come up recently in our games that I'd like to clear up...

1. Fellblade says it inflicts wounds on the wielder. I'm assuming this means only in close combat seeing, as how he wouldn't be wielding it unless he was actually attacking? Also, what are your thoughts on Fellblade? Worth taking or a disappointment?

2. HPA's have thunderstomp, correct?

3. If I have a unit of clanrats, whose two front ranks are all characters, like so:

Warlord on Litter - Chieftan - Warlord on Litter for my front rank, and another chief behind the first one.

That is, Two Warlords on Litters on the sides and 1 Chieftains in the middle with another one behind him, effectively meaning all my frontal close combat attacks are from characters.

Can my opponent still attack the clanrats? Or is he forced to hit one of the characters since he's not in combat or contact with any of the clanrats when attacking from the front?

4. What's the best way to make sure you get good use out of a Warlord who is using Warpstone Armor? (What can I do to get my opponent to want/need to hit him in combat and take the armor save hits?)

I was thinking of running him in to my opponents flank on a bonebreaker with a few rat ogres to keep him safe... Of course I'd also be running a lot of other scary stuff for him to deal with at the same time, like doomwheel.

1) No, you roll for it every turn. That way your opponent knows it's there and can avoid it. <_< I've never used it, so I can't comment on it's succes. (I prefer Grey Seers) Still, it's deadly on paper.

2)Yes. :) Makes them even more deadly in 8th.

3) He has to choose one or more of the characters to attack.

4) Get him a high armour save, and run him into low strength infantry who will suffer from the S4 return hits?

You can also give him the dawn stone and put him on a warlitter (makes his save better and increases the models footprint forcing more enemies to attack him).

I tend to find that in my area no one ever attacks the warlord, they only ever attack the basic troops he is with.

Not sure if you can force them to only attack characters if you have any command in that group of clan rats since champion, bearer and musians are always at the front, even before characters (thats how you hide the BSB :))

Since the standard bearer and musicians are effectively a standard model which other models step up to pick up the standard/music on the event of their death, I assumed they can kill your clanrats by attacking through the standard bearer and/or musician

If you place the Warlord on a Warlitter, and then position him on the corner of a unit, the 2 models on that same corner will be forced to attack the Warlord, as they cannot physically get into base-to-base with normal RnF infantry.

Example:

XXXWW
XXXWW

XXXXY
XXXXY

Where X = normal RnF troops, W = Warlord (note that the Warlord takes up 4 spaces because he is on a Warlitter), and Y = the troops that can only attack the Warlord.

If you stick the Warpstone Armour onto the Warlord and give him a shield for a 2+ save, this is a great little "tactic" to score a couple of extra S4 hits against an enemy unit.
You kids these days have it so easy, what with your Plague Furnaces and your Hellpit Abominations and your Bonebreaker Warlords. Back in MY day, all we had was Slaves and Clanrats!...and auto-hit Ratling Guns...and skirmishing Jezzails...and 2D6 Warp Lightning...and Lead From The Back...wait, what was my arguement again?

i would suggest warpstone armour and shield with a sword of antiheros or something... just in case he gets into the wrong spot... then have him on bone breaker with a dawnstone...

hit in front or flank... with your possible 10 attacks or so you should get enough CR to keep him in the fight may even work against choas warrriors... but its pretty risky... and you wouldnt want them to have anything but 2 hand weapons... lol...

also worth running the warlord by himself... that way they have to attack him.

fell blade is awesome... will kill anything in the game it gets to attack.

stank is only thing it may take 2 rounds to destroy and even then...

just make sure you deliver him where he needs to go. breaker is good...

litter is ok...

just dont make him your general.

lol.

Easy peasy to solve.

Put the characters you wanted in the unit. Make it 5 wide. Command will be in front so one War Litter or 2 Chieftains finish out the front (make it a war litter for reasons below).

When you get into combat you make way with characters. Problem solved. All your characters go to the front. Command moves back. You do *not* put both chiefs in front because you cannot remove a character from b2b with an enemy so both chiefs would be stuck in place.
