How to win agains Dwarfs using Anvil

I have a player who always brings the Anvil of doom using Thorik Ironbrow or another fully equipped Rune Lord.

Now being Skaven, there is a very simple method to take care of that problem.

Take the following Warlord (Not the General!):
25 pts. Sword: Dwarfbane: Makes him Str. 5, reroll to wound and armor piercing
15 ptd Shield of Distraction: Dwarf has 1 attack

Skitterleap him 1" away from the Anvil. Anvils cannot target lone characters.
Place him so behind the anvil that the Dwarf Bolt and Stone throwers cannot see you.

Charge and Challenge the Rune Lord. You survive at least 2 rounds, maybe even longer where you have a good chance to kill the rune lord. Even if you do not kill him, you hold up the anvil.

Or drop it in a crevass via Cracks Call. I imagine the Rune Priest's Initiative is not very high (being a Dwarf and all).
You kids these days have it so easy, what with your Plague Furnaces and your Hellpit Abominations and your Bonebreaker Warlords. Back in MY day, all we had was Slaves and Clanrats!...and auto-hit Ratling Guns...and skirmishing Jezzails...and 2D6 Warp Lightning...and Lead From The Back...wait, what was my arguement again?

I believe the anvil is classed as a warmachine. in which case it autofails all init tests.

MUTATE: Yep I checked and in the FAQ an Anvil of Doom is classed as a warmachine, which means it must automatically fail all tests except for leadership and toughness.

Even better then. Dev

So, the easiest and most obvious way to spoil the Anvil's fun is to cast Cracks Call on it.

I dont have my dwarfs army book in front of me, but as far as I remember, the dwarf will have as many dispell dices as he can grap with two hands, which means you will need a powerscroll or loads of warpstonetokens to reliably get cracks call to work.

I dont know about the wardsave of the anvil, but a unit of gutterruners or an assassin could perhaps also do the trick without the use of a powerscroll.

Ye. The anvil is annoying at the worst of times. It got a 4+ ward against ranged and a 6+ ward CC. Plus T10 nullifies warp cannons, more or less. They do receive one less dispel dice from it then they used to, though. But yeah, it's still hard to get spells through.

By the way, since the Anvil is a warmachine, you can't challenge the Runelord on top of it. Its in the FAQ if memory serves me correctly. Characters in a warmachine's crew can not issue or except challenges. And probably the worse thing is if you hit it with a unit, you have to choose your 6 guys to scrum over the top of the thing in combat.

The problem with cracks call is its rather low range. The anvil is normaly positioned as near to the table edge as possible... it will not flee... thus an attempt to hit the thing with cracks call is not only difficult because of the dwarfs dispell ability but also because the damn crack can have a range betwenn 4 and 24 inches, wich leaves it at around 14 inches, which is not enough for a "first turn-spell".

This can be circumvented by a warplockengineer with a brass orb. You can powerscroll a skitterleap and throw the brassorb at the anvil, which would/could/should destroy it in the first turn. I dont know how big the anvils base would be, but as every hit and missfire will cause the template to land on the anvil you have a chance of more than 50% for this tactic to work, while the dwarf player cannot do anything at all to prevent this from happen. It is at least worth a try.

I would throw the Brass Orb to the Anvil, and if it doesn't work, I would go for Cracks Call. If it still doesn't work, then that's bad luck I guess. You have other interesting options too, but those two should usually work.
