First Ever match; Skaven V Dwarves

So my first ever game outside of the IOB went like this
CORE
120 clan rats
(30) sp/sh/m/st/ch Banner of Clan supeiority (WFT)

(20) sp/sh/champion Dwarf Hide banner (poison wind mortor)

10 night runners slings
4 swarms

10 gutter runners poi att /slings deathrunner weeping blade (warpgrinder)
2 rogres 1 mb, 1 master moulder

Okay First off, I am incredibly new to playing, I make alot of mistakes mess up alot of rules, so if you see some positive constructive critisim to chime in by all means


his army was rally good, alot of dwarves
30 slayers(giant slayers)
20 long beards
20 iron breakers
20 warriors
20 dwarves with guns(quarrelers?)
20 (cross bolters swarves)
2 Volley guns,
2 grudge throwers

the points might not be even but my friend was pretty fair



my spells for thanqoul were,
Skitter-leap
Scorch
Warp Lightning
Plague
wither

Warplock Engineer
Skitterleap
Warp-lightning

So First turn, went off kind of in between.

Hey went first, and turtled.
mostly shot, was OOR of his volley guns but his grudge throwers landed... killing 3 units out of thanqouls group and the other grudge thrower missed.
his anvil guy misfired with a roll of 1 then derped and rolled a 1 again, but his misfire was nothing happened.

my turn I advanced everything as the diagram showed, cast my ZZZZAAaaap on the crossbowmen, killing 3, and my other doom wheel zzzzApped the slayers killing 3. his shooter dwarvs killed 1 rat swarm.

I advanced evrything forward, My Gutter runners didnt make their roll. thanqoul cast
Warplightning (dispelled)
Plague ( double 6's) killed 8 crossbow dwarfs then ended
lost 2 levels, forgot, warplightning, skitterleap.
skitterleap (dispelled)
warplock engineer
3 remaining dice cast warplightning killed 2 shooter dwarves
poison wind mortor Miscast, rolld a 3, friend put target over my doomwheel, and it caused 1 wound


*my map isnt to scale but yes all spells were in range.

Okay so turn 2 is here, he did some damage and the exact details are kind of fuzzy.
turned his warrior around to face my marker
also backed his slayers up

he hit with his grudge thrower killing 7 from unit 5(queek's) and his volley gun did 1 wound on my HPA.

his shooters shot over my night runners, to my rat ogres. Causing 1 wound.
his crossbow men, shot at my doom wheel causing 1 wound.

and his anvil did some damage attack killing 8 of thanqouls group




My turn.
Doomwheels GO!
doomwheel comes up 4 inches short of slayers
ZZZZZZappp! kills 3 slayers
doomwheel hits Long Beards
zzzaaap kills 3 Long Beards
Impacts hits kill 7 Long beards
closecombat does nothing. for both sides
Gutterrunners emerge w/ assasin. miscast on warpgrinder. I lose 5 gutter runners.
2 wounds with slings on volley gun.
everyone advances

Night runners kill 2 gunners, with slings.
PWM misfires
WFTx2 do nothing.
ratling OOR
magic. Thanqoul(now retarded) casts plague (dispelled)
wither (dispelled)
Warlock engineer Warplightning Hits, kills 3 Iron breakers
Skitter leap Double six's BLOWED UP and cast into dimensional portal Big template kills 14, they pass leadership kills rogre and 1 wound on swarm.

hard to follow but thats how that turn ended.Posted Image

This was our last turn, store closed.

He charged the flank of my Doomwheel with slayers
his warrior charged my gutterrunners and assassin up hill

nothing else moved

he shot and misfired his volleygun and 1 grud thrower.
he did 1 wound on my HPA with his volleygun
he missed completely with his grude thrower

his shooters took out 6 night runners
his crossbowmen failed

Both doomwheels blew up, but took guys with them
Slayers hacked it to bits, but lost 6 of thier guys
Long beards took last two wounds on Doomwheel, but lost 5 of thier guys

Best part, Dwarf warriors charge up hill into 5 gutter runners and 1 assassin, and litrally get cut to shreds, gutter runners kill 8 dwarfs, assassin, kills 4, dwarves run into my night runners and lose 3 more on dangerous terrain.gutter runner restrain and reform.

MY turn.
HPA Charges Crossbowmen.
no other charges
everything advances slightly

Magic cast plague goes off killing ironbreakers, 8 of them. spell ends
Skitterleaps Goes off. Skinhc is behind volley gun crew kills that up

shooting, night runners slings fail
Gutter runners slings take out volley gun, and assassin seperat from unit takes out
grudgethrower with warstone stars.
PWM - misfires does opponent puts morter over HPA does nothing
WFT. both shoot at ironbreakers, killing 3.
Ratling shoots ats slayers killing 7

Had to end game there store closed.

I know alot of rules I probably got wrong, and the points arent completey even.

but any advice you have is a good for me and constructive critism is good too.

Nice report, I like the addition of a map, makes visualisation a lot clearer. Skaven are a tough army to get right, especially for someone new to the game, there is a lot to remember, which means a lot to forget. Here is a list of a few things that I spotted rules wise that were incorrect, or possibly incorrect. In no particular order:

1. When you miscast, and roll the lose spells result, the first spell lost is always the one you cast. Any additional spells lost are then randomised.

2. Thanquol knows only 4 spells. How come you didn't have boneripper? He comes included in thanquols cost.

3. Both thanquol and the engineer had warplightning and skitterleap. In most cases you aren't allowed duplicate spells. The exception to this is signature spells (we don't have any) or if the rules specifically say you are allowed to swap for them (eg warlock swaps for warplightning, grey seer swaps for skitterleap or dreaded 13th, etc). If your engineer rolled first and ended up with warplightning and skitterleap, then your grey seer can't have warplightning, but is allowed to swap for skitterleap (as per his rules). Conversely, if the seer rolled for spells first, and got warplightning and skitterleap (+2 more) then the engineer can't get the skitterleap spell, but can swap for warplightning (as per his rules). Confusing at first, but you'll get used to it.

Welcome to WHFB :P Rules mistakes are common, I've been playing for a while and still stuff things up every now and then. Best way to learn..... play games, read book, play more games, then play some more, then some more, then read book again. You should have a fairly good grasp on the rules by then :)

2. Thanquol knows only 4 spells. How come you didn't have boneripper? He comes included in thanquols cost.

Actually, he knows five spells, unless it's been FAQ'd or something.

And yes, Boneripper comes with him.

I dont know how much you rolled for your doomwheels in round one, but since they startet behind the HPA and there must have been at least 26 inches distance to the enemy army, you must have rolled really high for both doomwheels to get close enough to the enemy. Otherwise both of them would have fried your HPA with their zaaap.

the map isnt completely to scale, but the HPA was deployed so h would angle and not go stiright across the field (not sure if thats allowed)

and I beliv the doom wheels both got 16- and 18 for rolls.

whats a BSB?

and forgive the map, it was done on MS Paint, and done with the crapy mouspad on a even crappeir laptop

i did not know they could not take magic banners, goodthing they did not go into combat and game was cut short.

(Z–>)90º – (E–N²W)90ºt = 1

BSB = Battle Standard Bearer, it's almost essential for Skaven armies (heck any army).

Don't worry about the shoddiness of the map, it's nice that you've actually bothered to include one and as turmi said it helps with the visualisation :)

your friend cheated you... rolling a 1 on an anvil misfires... and rolling another one... shoiuld have made his almost 500 point unit disappear... funny that dwarfs were not reliable.
