hello everyone. some questions, thanks 1.Does the WFT need a LOS? can I hide the WFT behind the slaves ,then shoot them when the slaves fight into close combat? 2.does the WFT explodes count as a missle weapon? 3. Does the bell/furance fail the I test as default result? Thanks alot |

1. In theory, the WFT needs LOS to at least something. But if you hide it behind a unit of slaves who are engaged in CC, you can simply target your slaves and hope you overfire high enough to score a good hit. Some players will regard that as unsportive. 2. WFTs can stand and shoot, so probably yes, everything the WFT does in in shooting phase is a missle attack, at least imho. 3. bells and funrnaces dont auto fail ini tests, as this is a rule for warmachines and not for unique units. |

no you can not target your slaves. expendable allows you to shoot at enemies engaged with the slaves. It does not give you permission to hit your own models. The basic restrictions on not placeing a template where it will hit your own guys is still in effects. It only lets us break the targeting into combat restriction. sadly  |

Actually that is a common misconception. The template rules on page 9 say absolutely nothing about not being able to place it on friendly models. It does say that when an attack uses a template, the attack will tell you how to place and scatter it. Now the warpfire thrower doesn't say you can't place it on friendly units, or that you cannot scatter onto friendly units. The only specifications are that the narrow end of the flame template begins at the WFT, and the fat end points towards a target in your line of sight. The big confusion of not being able to place templates on friendly models stems from the stonethrowers, and cannons. Both of which state in their rules that the cannonball can in no way even have a remote chance of hitting a friendly model or models in close combat, and you cannot place the stonethrower template over any friendly models, or models in close combat. Not even the flame cannon rules say anything about placing over friendlies, which is the closest parallel that the BRB has to the warpfire thrower. The warpfire thrower can shoot at enemies in combat with only skavenslaves, if it can see the enemy unit. If you can argue that you can see his unit through your skavenslaves, then you are free to open fire. Be wary though that the true line of sight rules are pretty much always open to debate. You cannot target the WFT at just any unit in close combat though, because it is a shooting attack, and it does have to target a viable unit, and a unit in close combat is not a viable shooting target (except slave combats). You can however 'accidentally' overshoot a viable target and have it land in a combat. |
