ogre magic is nice but really a decent tooled lord and chew through half a skaven unit pretty quickly. if you want an all comers list i would take heaps of slaves... maybe 4 units of 50+ and the kicker... bring spears. ogres hate people attacking them... sure they are T4 but usually have about as much armour as DE... they have poor initative and so you will be going first and for the price of a single bull with AHW you can take a unit of 20 slaves... wonder who is going to win that one. careful of gorgers and scraplaunchers... but other than that basic clanrats or slaves and do some real damage... also i disagree... stormvermin not so great but plague monks... excellent versus ogres. ogres have clubs which are armour piercing... this is built into the price. however monks have no armour but are T4 so bulls are wounding and hitting on 4s... basically you get 3 attacks for each monk for 7 points and they pay 35 for a bull. take 3 monks to have same number of wounds and you have... 9 attacks instead. sure they get more from the second rank but really a large unit of monks of equal value will really chew through bulls and even ironguts. really wouldnt bother with an abomb... sure it will kill them all but will it be fun... no. 2nd doomwheel and cannon for the same price is better. also remember take weapons teams as much as possible... he will have little to no shooting just watch out for bonecruncher. even doomflayers would be good... you are sure to do a few wounds before he attacks back and if he specifically targets he can only do max of 1 wound. and if you beat ogres in cmobat he will run unless stubborn... best leadership without crown of command would be 9... expect to see large units of bulls and ironguts to prevent you from getting points without wiping out units. that is why you really should take multi wound weapons... and like i said it is the one time i would suggest fellblade... it is what it was made for. (that and killing nagash). |

Interesting argument for taking Plague Monks. Perhaps my negativity towards them comes from my experience against the resident Ogre player who loves to run his units 12+ in size. I find PMs just can't cut it against these larger units. The PMs are only getting their 3 attacks from the front rank whereas the Ogres (if put in the correct formation) will get 3 attacks from every model. Factor in Stomp attacks, a few armour saves from the Ogres and more often than not the PMs are losing combat. Usually they’ll hold thanks to Steadfast, but losing Frenzy hurts big time in the next round. They end up doing pretty much the same job as a Slave unit would’ve but cost more points. I could see a unit of 20 being useful as a flanking unit, but given the choice I’d rather have 10 Gutter Runners with Slings/Poison than 20 Plague Monks. |

If you give a plague banner to 40 monks, they will (probably) win the first round of CC against bulls, which gives them a second round of frenzy. If the monks are lucky (or the bull-unit is not really big) that should be enough of an advantage to bring the ogres down, add in "blessed-with-filth" and it becomes really nasty. |

For roughly the same points as a unit of 12+ ogres with command, etc, you can get 40 monks with banner of plague, and a priest on a furnace. My money'd be on the monks then. |

I wasn't after a list , rather some advice and suggested units / combo's that work. The PM's with Plague Banner and Plague Furnace is definitely an option I will be trying. Oddly though one of my units that did well was a unit of 40 Storm Vermin. An additional Doom Wheel and a Warp Lightening Cannon are on he cards too. I have two Assassins ready to go too. |

If you want you can also try Ratogres in larger Packs. They run around with ini and str 5. I have no practical experience with them against OK, but they tear chaos ogres a new one every time I fight them. Depending on the size of the enemy ogre unit, a horde of stormvermin will also be quite valuable. 40 rolls to hit, around 26 hits and 13 wounds. If the units have equal point size (around 280 and full commando), half of the ogre unit is dead before they even swing their weapons at the SV. The remaining ogres will not even manage to hack away a single rank of the SV. If they come in packs of 18 instead of 8, that is of course a different story, but thats more than double the cost of your SV and not really comparable. The more I read and learn about OK, the more I think skaven are a real tough opponent for them. Our only real disadvantage is that our magic is significantly weaker against them ogres (plague on 8 t4 guys is not really a burner, not to speak of the 13th..., and 3 inch single wound scorch is also not that effectiv). |
