As the Old Greyseer was lying on his deathbed he passed on a few words of wisdom to his son: - War is not about winning son, its about your opponents losing more than you do. - But dad, if your opponents lose more than you do, you still win the battle, so its all the same, isn't it? - You are so young my son.....worthy opponents are on your side of the battlefield..... | |

Its simpler, but also more ellegant. 7th, in my eyes, was a mess, where army construction was the most important part of the game. Now we see a whole lot of fun lists apear, because they are finally viable again. Phase it, there wasn't much thinking involved with parking a dragon behind the enemy army, or pushing your daemonic units forwards. |

QFT 7th ed Charge rules were a mess, skirmisher movement was a mess and easy to exploit loopholes. It also had what I call the 8" Mexican standoff, where being charged was so crippling no one really wanted to move into the enemies charge range, except high elves, but thats because they cheat :P. Monsters, small elite units and heavy cav just tore through everything, deathstars were rampant. Now the games of 8th that I play are starting to look more like armies rather than a generals uber-elite bodyguard plus a few outriders. It was fun watching my stegadon carve through 1000 points of elite warriors of chaos a few times, but I started to rely on it too much. Now I've been forced away from steg smash to something that feels more wholesome, and dare I say it, fun. For the record I don't think 8th is any more or less tactical than 7th, the focus has shifted, the simplicity has certainly increased, but that doesn't throw tactics out the window. Just my opinion on the matter. It certainly is more fun though.

Sigh I wish I could say with a straight face that the Skaven are currently "balanced". There is no denying that we are one of the top tier armies in the game right now (We werent nerfed in 7th but we werent Demons either) We can be very effective in every phase of the game. Magic Shooting Close Combat Not every other army can lay that claim, but hey I'm not complaining! |

sure we can do well in all phases but when was the last time a skaven army dominated a close combat phase against WoC or the magic phase against a HE army... or out shot a dwarf gunline... we are a good army... no doubt... but by no means op like deamons were. |

Also remember that the gulf between tiers is much smaller in 8th edition. Remember how awfull the top tiers where in 7th? We have none of that, and the lower tier armies aren't useless anymore. |
