In my handful of games so far there have been three occasion where 13th would have been gamewinning. A small unit of dark elf crossbowmen with a sorceress had fortified a tower - 13th would have fixed that problem, instead they survived the game with a few models alive. Getting rid of them early would have given me two benefits, VP and denied the DE player of 10 RBTs and a level 2 fire flinging wizard. I should also note I had trouble getting them out of the building. Same game, last turn there was a high sorceress with a couple of warriors left alive out of a 30+ model unit. 13th was my only tool ready for dealing with her 6 wounds gained from Soulstealer. In the other game I was facing daemons with their small elite units. First and second turn I could have tried killing 5 flamers and from turn three and onwards 13th could have taken care of the bloodletter problem I had tied up with my slaves. The first turns I spend my PWM thinning out in their numbers. Late game I could have tried to ratify daemonettes.

I better bring 13th next game ;)

Against huge units Plague and Scorch are the preferred tools of the trade.

Another reason our spells are not subpar is (according to the smart folks at The Warhammer Forum) Cracks Call doesn't allow for a Look Out, Sir! roll. Pretty mean against slanns, dwarfs, ogres, greenskins and tomb kings. And of course steam tanks, chariots and warmachines but that is old news.

@Kevlar, that lvl 2 engineer and priest is so simple yet so brilliant, I love the idea it's making me all happy inside from pure evilness :globe: :censor: #gs#

When choosing spells for a grey seer can't you mix and match between the two lorries?

You see, this is the problem. You guys are discussing the merits of the 13th spell and plague. Plague for hordes, and 13th spell for elites. That implies that you can get both spells which is actually quite difficult. That is my point about skaven magic. To get plague and the 13th spell, you have to go for the spell lore for all of your 4 spells otherwise you have a very small chance.

Getting both spells is actually quite easy. Roll all four spells on Spells of Plague, in case of a double choose #6 and finally change one for the 13th. I've heard there some 90% chance of getting Plague this way, but of that's not enough bring a level 2 plague priest to weed out the spells you don't want on your grey seer, for even greater chance of getting both.

Is not the answer here, that you just have to 'man-up' (or rat-up) and choose the lore you want the most?

Yes, if you mix the lores you are less likley to get the really good ones you want...then dont.

As a person preference, plague is the way forward.
