Spells of Plague suicidal?; The range is this short

I've heard a lot of positive talk about the spells of plague, while in practice I have a hard time getting the short range to work for my grey seer. He really doesn't like to get into the frontline, making it difficult to get off beauties such as wither and cloud of corruption. It was fun when plague bounced twice times though.

Can someone please explain the lore to me.

In my experience, plague spells are best taken on plague priests (who would have guessed). The only reason i think people take a plague spell on grey seers is the offf chance of getting Plague. If you are taking a pestilens army of doom then by all means give your grey seer Plague spells, but considering he isnt a combat monster like your plague priest i wqouldnt advise it. Thats the main difference

Plague priest = Good in combat so shot range doesnt matter (notice how most plague spells are able to be cast in combat)

Grey seer= Kicks ass at magic, not much else. IMO my Grey Seer will take 3 Ruin Spells and 1 Plague spell, however if i dont like the Plague spell it will be the first thing i change to 13th

I use a mix of Ruin and Plague(against heavy war machines, Slaan, etc), but mainly find myself using the Lore of Plague on my Seer, perhaps I can share some insight:

The range maybe short on some key spells; Cloud and Wither hop out, however neither require line of sight. I have never honestly ran into a situation where I was not able to simply screen my Seer's unit with a cheap unit of Slaves.

Bless targets your own guys, and Breath usually gets swapped for the 13th if I roll it.

Plague doesn't share the issue, and neither does Vermintide in my opinion.

Good info for me :)

By screening with slaves do you mean ram slaves into the enemy to pin them while Withering them down? #gs#

I think it sounds (overly) optimistic to roll on both ruin and plague. So far I would like to go for one spell depending on the enemy, and any interesting candy is just a bonus. After my last game I have been convinced to try and cast one spell each turn, and with luck cast a few more, better putting too many PD into a spell than too few. This could be Plague or Scorch, or when desperate/gambling have a go at the 13th (I hate the 50/50 odds), and sprinkle with some low stuff such as Warp Lightning or Wither. The two ideas on magic fits well together.

Off chance? It's a 19/20 chance of a single level 4 getting the spell they want if you throw all your spells on the lore.

Plague is 18". You'll still have a 24" 13th spell. Bless with filth blesses a unit which can be ahead of the seer. Vermintide can hit something an average of 19" forward. Wither is short ranged, but one of the best spells in the game.

Plus, Plague spells on the Grey Seer (most of which can be cast into combat) makes the Screaming Bell a much more palatable option, as it no longer shuts down your chief mage as soon as it hits the front lines.

I hate tournaments. When you cease to play for fun and begin to play to win, it ceases to be a game and begins to be a job. I don't know about you, but I already have a job. I don't feel the need to pay Games Workshop in my off-time for the privilege of working for them.

You take a lvl 2 PP who soaks up 2 of the 6 possibles. Then you are guaranteed it if you want it enough and personally I prefer plague spells. Wither works on just about anything and scares people to death they often throw all there dice at that and then realise plague is coming next.

I see a number of comment of the marvel of Wither, do you do as Esco and screen the seer with a small unit of slaves, or how do you go about withering the target without have your seer getting killed in many nasty ways?

Well is no guarantee of safe passage for a seer he isn't that hard to kill. Just try to keep him on the edge of his range. I have before ended up with my seer in a unit that in the second wave at the centre of my lines but because he couldn't do anything there his unit walked around to the edge of the combat and started to flank the enemy.
