Hey guys, just wondering what size i should field giant rats in 1000pts, i already have about 10 of them just from rats off other sprews, and im juts wondering if i should make more. Also, reading the rule for rats:pakcmasters ratio, it says you MAY add packmasters but it doesnt say i have to..... does this mean i can have one Master Moulder and 10 rats? Thankyou Mukus |

if your going to field 'em i'd do it in blocks of 40, 10x4, to maximize attacks. They don't get SIN any more so it doesn't matter how many ranks they have. |

TRADE I'm looking for Dark Eldar to convert into DE. Also looking for bretonnia lances and halberds. If anyone has any they would be interested in trading PM me and we can work something out. "And, most vivid of all, there was the dramatic epic of the rats––the scampering army of obscene vermin which had burst forth from the castle three months after the tragedy that doomed it to desertion––the lean, filthy, ravenous army which had swept all before it and devoured fowl, cats, dogs, hogs, sheep and even two hapless human beings before its fury was spent. Around that unforgettable rodent army a whole separate cycle of myths revolves, for it scattered among the village homes and brought curses and horrors in its train." – The Rats In The Walls, H.P. In 1000pt games I usually take 2 units of 25-30 with around 3 Packmasters and a Moulder with Great Weapon. One of these units is also joined by a Plague Priest on Giant Pox Rat. Its alot of Giant Rats I know, but in 1k games they are just so versatile.... I believe Grats do still get SiN so long as Packmasters are alive, but Im not certain on that. Without packmasters they definately dont... - Sammy |

Good point. Interpreted the Errata wrong. A question I have for Grats is, does Wave of Rats allow them to attack from 3 ranks when not horded? so from 4 ranks when horded? Mutate: If that's true I'm going back to my 7th tactic of running large units of Grats next to bigger units of slaves. |

Yes, 4 ranks when hoarded...loads of attacks. As to the OP, I am running 20 Grats, 3 pack masters, and a Master Moulder with GW. For 113p they are amazing, lots of attacks and really fast. And bugger all points... |

Bah, 20 is too small for my liking! Currently Im organising a unit of around 36 with 5 Masters, a Moulder w. GW and Pox Rat Priest for larger games. I easily have enough models to have 2 units of that size, which is awfully tempting... - Sammy |

5 rats + 1 pack master make small, cheap, effective war machine hunters. If your opponent wastes a turn with a real unit shooting at them they have already earned back their points. Field them 3x2 they are small, fast, and maneuverable. |

I dunno about small units anymore kevlar. I know its only 23 points but with the new metagame its all about scoring any points at all, a 50 man unit of chaos warriors reduced to 4 guys still gets us 0 points. i think 6 rat darts are a easy few points when there are AoE spells and items that will blast them to pieces without even targetting them. Plus any unit destroyed causes a panic test on nearly units which while Ld10 will usually suffice the BSB bubble wont be everywhere and stuff will sometimes flee. |

I've never used giant rats before. I always thought that a huge swarm would look so cool tearing across the battlefield. Now there's Skweel, and lots of reasons to have a large unit...So using all of my bits and what-not I have assembled a unit consisting of: Skweel, 5 packmasters, and 75 giant rats (I put 2 rats on each base for a swarm effect)!! It is my dream to use this 80 model unit as a huge diversion/flanking force.

Take what you like. They work for me. If someone dedicates magic or shooting at them you just protected a real unit. Four of these are less than 100 points. Only one needs to get to a war machine to earn points back for the entire lot. Against a gun line they are cheap and effective. They work in other ways as well. I had a unit take out a unit of fiveheavy cavalry on a flank charge. Panic is a non issue, they are fielded on the far flanks and make a bee line to the enemy deployment zone. Imho they are more effective than gutter runners who will be a priority target, costing 5x more than a rat dart for the same number of wounds. |

Not true! While GR don't get SiN, the PM do, and the ranks still add to the PMs' Ld, which, is the Ld that the unit tests on. Now, if the PM all die, then the GRs test on Ld 2... |
