So with Ard Boyz rounding the corner this weekend, I'm thinking of plying my skill. It would be my first real competetive tournement, I've fared decently in local friendly shop tourney's, but I still have a long way to go I think. may need some help for this one, so anything you guys can do to help at least soften the blows, feel free to offer some advice. I haven't settled on a defenite list, but I think I'm bringing an ass ton of slaves and clanrats of course, 3 teams of 5 globadiers with 2 mortars, 3 teams of 6 tooled out gutter runners, 2 cannons, 2 dw's, a catapult, and a large jezzail unit to stick in a portable tower. I know this one's gonna be a cheese fest, so what should I be looking foreward to hating?

My tip for performing well is to know the rules inside and out. I've played 20 games of 8th Edition. It isn't even as many as I would have liked to play before a big tournament, but I feel like I have a very good grasp of all the rules. There will be a lot of people trying out 'Ard Boyz who will have only played a few games of 8th Edition. Hopefully you can use this to your advantage.

I think you should be prepared to face huge gunlines (Dwarves and Empire, and maybe other Skaven), Teclis IF'ing your face off, 50 power dice Dark Elves with 2+ Hydras, Kairos Fateweaver, blocks of 100 Chaos Warriors in a single horde unit, and Slaan Life magic. Sure everyone will be there, maybe some more than others, but I think this will be some of the real nastiness.

I'm bringing my own nastiness with 2 Grey Seers and 2 Hell Pit Abominations.

Until they save their shots to stand and shoot against your Doomwheel, and cry out in disgust when you tell them they can't! Not that it has happened before. ;)

So the list I ended up bringing:
2 dw
1 hp
2 wlc
100 clanrats w/ shield + spear + wft
2 x 50 slaves
44 stormvermin w/ cmd + razor banner + wft
BSB w/ storm banner
WE lvl 2 + doom rocket
Grey seer + power scroll + iron curse icon
Warlord + littler + tricksters helm + talisman of protection + biting blade
3 x 5 gutter runners w/ poisoned slings

I got 4th place w/ a minor victory over demons, a minor loss under demons and a victory over I can't remember it was so late. I didn't face any shooty armies, I couldn't get the power dice I needed for effective magic phases. My first game was against a super awesome demons player and I'm still new to the rules, so made alot of mistakes and he let alot of junk slide that shouldn't have happened. So props to him for keeping it fun even though I was doing alot of stupid stuff. Highlight of the day, str 4 wlc shot kills skarbrand on turn 2 first game of the day. Nothing else super awesome happens all day for me, I failed to kill 2 remaining horrors to get victory points for that unit, due to clanrat unit failing their rerollable ld 10 fear checks for 3 turns. Lot of fun though, got 4'th overall so I didn't do too bad for my first real hardcore tourney I thought.

I ended up running with this:

Chieftain(BSB, Shield, Halberd, Armor of Destiny)
4 x 50 Slaves(Musician)
2 x 40 Clanrats(Standard, Musician, Warpfire Thrower)
3 x 5 Gutter Runners(Poison, Slings)
6 x Rat Ogres(Master Bred, 3 Packmasters)
2 x Hell Pit Abomination
2 x Warp Lightning Cannon
Plague Claw Catapult

Took first overall, but have some definite tweaking to do or possibly just running in a completely different direction. Unsure of it at this point really.
