Yesterday, a friend of mine give me for my birthday 40 stormvermin, they are worth? I think that for 7 points u have a clan rat with WS 4 S4 and I5 so its really good! and the possibility to take a magi banner ( I will always use stormbanner) give me your opinions! ![]() Zhutky |

7th edition not so much. 8th edition that extra I means a lot. The WS and Str are nice too! So I say yes, they are a nice unit especially to horde up. Compare them to other armies units with similar stats. Bet they cost more than 7 points. |

Stormvermin die in droves but as Kevlar pointed out, their init makes up for their cost over a regular clan rat. Also that free halberd is soooo nice in a horde; getting off 30 str 4 atks can be sooo satisfying if you are cutting up someone elses horde units like goblins or skeletons.

I like stormvermin not from any gaming point of view just fluff wise it seems right that your warlord should be with his stormvermin bodyguard. 8 points ain't bad for initiative 5 wps 4 strength 4 and a 4+ armour save against shooting, give them that armour piercing banner and they become very nasty, especially when backed up by a doomflayer! To put it in context a skeleton costs 8 points! I know who my money would be on in a fight especially with the nerf on fear!

Just remember Queek's vermin as WS 5 can only be hit by "crap" troops (skeletons, goblins, slaves, etc) on a 5+! So that is quite a bit of extra survivability vs other things you are likely to see in a horde... Granted they still go down faster than a cheap hooker to "normal" units, but hey at least they hit hard and take more than they give. |

With Stormvermin, i generally think like this: They're Skaven "elite" troops. That means that they're able to go toe-to-toe with another army's standard troops. But will still die like a slave to enemy above-standard troops. (Though, Saurus and WoC are to be considered elite troops ;)) In 8th, as it has been said, the extra I is awesome. I would also say, don't horde up. Leave that to slaves if you really want to, or maybe a bell/furnace unit. Also, i would immagine it'd be fun to attack gobbos or something with Queek's famous S5 Stormvermin

I got a bunch of the plastic stormvermin that I now use as clanrats with spears, the older metal models I still field every once in a while with a unit pushing a bell in a horde and hoping to get the 13'th result, like any devout Skaven. I don't think they're really worth it on their own, super sweet models though. In my experience horded clanrats w/ shields last longer, clanrats with spears always kill more, giant rats are always better flankers, and slaves outperform everyone else! I guess thats probably a sign of my ability to command so I should strive to use em better.

Roll 30 dice with 3+ to hit and 3+ to wound. You can see for yourself how effective it is on normal troops. You should average 15 or so wounds per turn against a T3 unit with similar frontage. Stick a defensive geared warlord in there with the crown of command and you are stubborn on 10 for a while. If you lose more than 10 just reform 7 wide, or 5 wide and keep that rank bonus up. |

3s to hit 3s to wound 15 wounds? from 30 attacks? I think your math hammer is broken lol 3s to hit 20.00 hits 3s to wound 13.33 wounds light armour and shield is standard issue for most so 6 save 11.11 unsaved wounds. not go into the hole parry business because it depends on the units weapon and flank fighting in the combat. |

You think dwarfs are good Dark Elf executioners 50 strong in horde formation reroll failed to hit and killing blow. S6 attacks nasty stuff.

Yeah, but Dwarf core troops are WS4 T4 S5/gw LD9 for 11 points. A solid troops choice. No longer slow in 8th.

I'm happy for all the dwarf players who suddenly don't have to castle up in a corner around their warmachines anymore.
