Starting Skaven

I, Queek Stabquick, having just escaped from the slave cage using my obviously superior intelligence and favor in the eyes of the Great Horned Rat, am ready to start amassing a force large enough to control both the UnderEmpire and, further along, the world itself!

The problem is... I don't know where to start.

I know the new Island of Blood is High Elves v. Skaven, so would getting a set, trading the HE's away for more skaven, and picking up a battalion give me a good start?

Having never played Skaven before (started with Dwarves, and in 8th!) My plan was to have large blocks of slaves and clanrats, with deep ranks, scurry on ahead, as I use rat ogres (rerolling using a BSB) and other skaven nastiness to wreck havoc. I may even employ a Grey Seer.

Any advice given will be of great help, and I may even let you live when I'm in charge. Thanks!

I suggest you speak to your local Skyre rep and obtain some basic weapons of destruction. Many clans enjoy the services of clan skyre warlocks carrying the powerful doomrockets and Brass Orbs to devastate the enemy, either jumping for a first turn barrage or attacking as they close with the enemy. Poison wind globadiers, who can shoot into slave combats and always hit the enemy. Warp fire throwers are amazing weapon teams that will on average shoot about 10 inches. Most lower clans can only dream of unleashing the powerful warp lightning cannon upon their enemy's, and with the new laser guided cannon rules who can blame them?

Be sure to mention my name with any purchases, it could help you avoid some unwanted side effects associated with warpfire exposure ^Warpfire^

Welcome!

Trading HE for skaven gives you double the models, a very good start to a skaven army. Throw in a battalion box and you've got yourself a veritable horde. Dev

Have fun, just try not to be overwhelmed with the number of models to paint.

Thanks to the both of you!

I really, really like the look of the Warp Lightning Cannon, and I've heard whisperings of the Globadier's menacing accuracy when firing into slave combat.

As for painting? When it comes to the clanrats and slaves, it'll be a quick basecoat, and then a dip into some Army Painter deep tone dip. Hope that'll work!
