How does shooting vs Warpfire Throwers work? They're a unit attachment that isn't in the unit but can they still be singled out?

For example, I take a WFT vs HE, can it be shot with archers or a bolt thrower?

yes, it can be shot at. he does have a bit of a ward save vs wounds, its described in the skaven rule book. (dont want to get too specific on a public site...)

Same rules as per the characters look out sir save whilst being within 3" of a unit of the same type, except, you only get it if you're within 3" of it's parent unit in this case. Pages 96-97 of the rulebook. I hope that helps.

Vague, yet I think it explains enough.

The individual charecter is still in effect right? Make him also take a -1 to hit because it counts as one.

@ -1 to hit for being a skirmisher.

I don't think that'd slide (it didn't in 7th edition), since it's really 'two' models.

Dont forget the +5 AS from heavy armor. If you only have 1 wound, that can help quite a bit against skirmishers.

Well it doesn't apply in 8th anyway as single models don't get -1 to be hit

Between being easily singled out for shooting and now when they die they cause panic in all units within 6" i don't think i'll be bringing anymore warpfire throwers. This almost crushed me in a tourney yesterday when both misfired. And everything still was within command radius and BSB.
Lost anyway, stupid chaos puppet and manipulating misfire chart. IF+MC on a two dice cloud of corruption sucks my GS into the warp before i wither and plague the warriors.
MY two WLC were MVPS with 24hammerers, dwarf lord, stone thrower, Gyrocopter,
8 Empire 1+save cav+mounted BSB, Chaos lord mounted, Chaos mounted BSB and 8 khorne Knights all killed by WLC over three games.

They dont cause panic look at page 60 ;)

Also any shooting they do to your weapons teams means less on your other units.

I dont usuallly bring wft's anyway as theyre a little expsensive for only being one would models(if your opponent shoots at it with a couple small units and you just fail the ward, they can make those points easy without losing out on much, since those units arent good at shooting at big blocks anyway) and its misfire chart killing it on 1-5 is just too much in my opinion.

I guess I am not seeing the connection that would give them look out sir?

What am I missing?

There's no connection, they don't get a look out sir, they get a ward save if they're near the parent unit(which is part of their rules, nothing to do with the brb) only characters and champions get LoS

Would you recommend Rattling Guns then?
