so after quite a few games in 8th edition there are a lot of different things that are viable and playable but there is one big thing i have kinda noticed at least around here. i dont feel like skaven anymore. with the 7th edition book i didnt run a bell or furnace because i didnt think the unbreakable fit with the feel of the skaven. with 8th edition here i am feeling it even less. what made skaven "skaven" to me was that we had 2 units for each opponents 1 and would have to swarm around to win. now here everyone is running horde rules and to even stand a chance i have to horde up as well. then with small flanks it fells odd to flank with 50 rats against 3 or 4 models in the flank. so the "swarm tactic i used has kinda left the game as most of my opponents run at least 30 models in a horde formation of everything. to me what it boils down to is horded stormvermin 50 strong with tons of heroes for killing and as much -leadership as i can get, potents of doom and horned rat standard. or can do the other way around and as much +resolution as i can get my hands on bsb warbanner and clan superiority. either way its usually one unit on one unit till some one dies. please keep in mind that i dont hate the game at all. in fact i love 8th edition more than i thought i ever could i am just saying that skaven dont feel like skaven to me anymore. still love them though. especially gutter runners. my new favorite unit. torn between jezails and globadiers still but i think that will always be like that. anyway, how do you guys like skaven in the new edition? overall i love the new edition. lizardmen though just for a point and click "good guys" army. thoughts? |

what exactly are you complaining about? my list feels more skaveny than ever, now that i'm running almost double the models. anyway, i love almost everything about the new edition, and also how skaven play with the new edition. we have strengths (steadfast) and weaknesses (non-partials hits). our main strategies have changed (less reliance on heavy hitters like censers and the HPA) and big blocks are back in. i am pleased with how skaven work in the edition. |

In my 2500 point army i run two units of sixty CR a unit of fourty CR and a unit of Thirty GR. two units of five ogres a HPA, a ten man squad of Gutterrunners and a ten man squad of Stormvermin, and a warlord, PP and Chieftain, To me this really feels very skaven and its very effective in my opinion. Im loving my rats even more now in eighth because my huge units get to do things now, Before my thirty rat unit of Clannies was ten models that got to fight and twenty buffers to make the unit survive. Now my sixty rat units four ranks get to fire. im still using twenty guys as a buffer but i get fourty attacks back its amazing. |

i suppose you guys are right and looking at it realistically i think i am just bitter as we have 3 dwarfs, 1 high elf, and 1 empire player regularly. i tend to get shot away before most of my big units have a chance to do much. still trying to figure out how i want to run my 8th edition list. venting my frustration.

Stormbanner, shadow mag trinket, i think there is a common magic item that works against warmachines. Most importantly. Know your opponent are not Skaven and can not shoot in combat. MOVE FORWARD!!!! and eat their delicious flesh. mmmmmmm pink delicious flesh. |
