in the new clanrat box some are modeled in a way that works well for slaves. i think its about a 10/10 split armored vs slavelike/unarmored. |

Correct. Use 10 of the unarmored ones, and equip them with the little dinky daggers/clubs on the sprue and they appear very slavelike. |

I'd also happily recommend using some Bretonnian Peasants, Flagellants and Gnoblars to really add some Slave flavour to your ranks |

One thing some folks have done is they get the 6E era Skaven, and use those as slaves. There is a clear difference and they're still Skaven, just be sure to be careful with the tails! Once I get a bunch of the new clanrats I might do that. |

Twisted, evil, treacherous, and diabolical rats wielding arcane technologies that are dangerous to foe and friend, that care not for their kin and are constantly plotting against each other. What more need I say about what makes Skaven cool? My Skaven Blog Updated November 29, 2009. 7:57 PM (-6 GMT) Have spare little rats from the old clanrats, current plague monks, corpse cart, or individual rats from the doom wheel? PM me. I want them. 30 more needed.

You could actually take the 6E clanrats a little further and BREAK their tails like what happened to my models during a long hiatus. It's actually pretty understandable fluff wise because slaves live such hard lives...and rats are known to eat their own tails when starving. |

My army is a Mors themed army, so I have 100 Night Goblins for my slaves. Has the added bonus of being a decent start to an Orc & Goblin army since 60 of those came from a Battle forSkullpass box. |

I have dabbled in many different armies and so when I went back to my skaven after a long while I just grabbed all the other armies and stuck them as slaves. That way I didn't waste anything.

I will not use "none-skaven" models as slaves in my army, for two reasons: 1) I do not think it suits the "feel" of a skaven army 2) Any Skaven that has climbed/clawed/stabbed his way to the rank of warlord would know that the risk of non human slaves turning on the skaven during the battle is far too great!.

Anyone who's read the 5th ed skaven armybook knows that it's totally kosher to use non-skaven slaves, especially night goblins. |

On the contrary, it's very, very Skaven-like, especially for Clan Mors. Check the fluffh on page 14.
That passage right there is what decided me to go for a Clan Mors theme in the first place. |

Shennanigans are out of the question!

I also like my mixed state troops, flagellants, and gnoblars because it provides a clear difference between my clanrats and slaves. All the state troops have their weapons busted and bent, and the flaggies and gnoblars are already armed with suitably poor weapons. Plus, if you are concerned about them being kept in line, the back rank are skaven in armor with whips and torches and stuff. Malsqueek's Clan uses only lesser races for slaves! |

"Nurgle has got to be my favorite chaos god, fluff wise... He's portrayed as this sort of jovial, jolly old guy who thinks that rotting apocolyptic plague is funny as hell... So basically he's a big ole fat bastard who thinks giving you a scorching case of the herp is a big laugh." ---Kadrium 7th Edition Fellblade Kills: 1 Steam Tank, 1 Warrior Priest, 4 Greatswords, 3 Treekin, 1 Chaos Sorcerer, 5 Chaos Warriors, 13th Spell Kills: 8 Chaos Chosen.
