Are the miscasts hits considered a magical attack?
Can you use your magic resistance against the hit?
If its not a magic attack are enthiral casters immune to miscast hits?

I can't find anywhere where it says they are magical hits.

Please state the page number in the new BRB and where abouts its located.

Thanks

Quick thoughts.

Since they say magical energies throughout the miscast section (of the magic chapter), I'd say they are magical hits. (p 34) I really don't think that it would have to be written down here.

Since it is not a spell, you don't get magic resistance, I guess. Of course, that isn't explicitly written down as well. (p 72)

I think Sylterix has it down correctly.

They are magical energies, but Magic Resistance would not afford a save, since it's a magical backlash not a spell/bound.

Not all of the tables results actualy say anything about magic ie 5-6. Plus thats more or less in the fluff part of the result not in the actual rule.

Wouldnt that mean that an ethereal caster is immune to damaging miscast results because its not explicitly stated?

Someone hurry up and delete this thread before any VC players see it and spread the word.

A miscast is a miscast, it's not a magic missile, it's not a spell that can be dispelled. If there were exceptions to the rule (outside of certain slaan/TK characters) then it would have been stated in the miscast section.

Well, MR clearly does not work against miscasts since it only works on "damage caused by spells". If you want to try and pick that apart be very careful since it leads to people explaining that they're going to use their MR against your Sword of Rhuin.

As to whether or not a miscast is magical... Technically no spell is magical as you will never find a sentence qualifying spells as magical damage. Again, be careful what you ask for.

Every entry that involves damage to the caster clearly calls it a detonation of magical energy in the text.

The one to look out for is VC claiming that Unstable doesn't affect Ethereals. As Miscasts are magical effects they'd affect Ethereals anyway but Unstable lacks any such wording making Ethereals effectively immune by rules as written.
