The slings and stars are just bonus. It is difficult at best to destroy a war machine with one volley of slings. However, you are certain to cut down the whole crew if you charge in. The new war machines make it more advantageous to melee a war machine. plus the fact that it can't shoot when it's in combat.

My GRs have one job: destroy enemy war machines. Anything else they accomplish is bonus

10 Poisoned Slings at close range that have moved cause almost 4 wounds average, to something T7. That's a dependable kill against most war machines.

Though I'd recommend having them split up in two units of 5, to decrease the risk of them all panicing if one should place them a little too close to a cannon, go up against an organ gun or something like it.

In my normal list I have 3 units of 5. One 10 man unit is too many eggs in one basket; like 180 points?

Remember the survivalist rule of "two is one and one is none". That's why i prefer 3 units.
