It shouldn't do, infantry and monstrous infantry are two different classifications and the 13th specifies that it targets an infantry unit. So no, it can't change ogres and such.

I guess this should be posted here as well. But does the dreaded 13th spell affect characters that are in a unit of infantry? On a side not probably a good thing I read this topic, I never noticed the clause about infantry only. Last time I used it I turned a big bad unit of bloodknights into pathetic clanrats. Totally won me the game, I just won't let him know about that mistake. :ph43r: |

Yeah it works on Characters/Heroes/Lords as long as they're infantry sized.

you only get LOS agains spells with templates. the opposing characters will ofcourse be the last models removed, but they do not get LOS or any saves. |

My opponent said that his hero could not be targeted by the spell since the unit had more than 5 rank and file models. The faq said the hits were distributed like shooting. I further could not find a rule in the 8th ed book which says the character would take a hit after all the rank and file were killed/converted to clan rats. In other words, I rolled enough with the 4D6 to more than kill the unit but nothing said the character could be targeted. I've seen this used in 7th to save characters but it just doesnt feel right. I ended up killing the unit and placing his character 1 inch away like it says in the FAQ for characters of a different type. Does anyone have a reference to a rule that I'm missing? |

character was toast. The character was an infantry model. While he gets to choose who die, if you roll higher than the model count in the unit they are all gone. Characters and all. WoC players tend to believe nothing can kill their characters so his reaction doesn't surprise me. I had an Orc player argue for an hour that the unit i just created out of his orcs couldn't have champ+standard+musician and spears. Even thought it says i can in the spell and the FAQ. |

Grey Seer - Summoner of Verminlords
|
ROFL!! You have an argument for an hour? IMPOSSIBLE! The character was/is toast. Thought the clarification was in the FAQ somewhere. I just successfully cast this the other night in my first game of 8th ed vs an O&G army. Popped a power scroll and rolled six dice to cast and of course ended up with double sixes anyways and a casting total of 31. So i wasted my scroll but in the trade off I added 19 converted savage orc boyz to the numbers of Horned Rat worshipers. The other plus is that even though i rolled double ones for my IF roll my grey seer didnt take a wound, didnt insta-die, and the 30 rat unit he was in only took 3 wounds and the dice pool was already empty so I didnt lose any dice either! |

yes i'm much calmer nowadays. I can listen to Luther moan "That's Horseshit" for the rest of the game without throwing dice at him. GJ on poppin' your 8th cherry yobtar. You just had to finish off them O&G that I softened up for you. Did ya bring the Fellblade? He's hates that lol. Tunnel teams at all? He focus fire your weapon teams? Did ya brass orb anything? Savage orcs always get 13th asap. He hates that too lol. |

Made of 110% Skaven!

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/...3000006&start=2 Page 7, left hand side. Third, fourth, seventh and eighth questions. Those should answer the "How are character's effected" and "Can I equip my skaven" questions, though it sounds like you might have been talking to a wall on that one. The rules for the 13th spell only mention it working on infantry. So Monstrous infantry, being separate from infantry, are unaffected. |

The FAQ says to distribute hits like shooting. The BRB says a character in a unit of 5 or more rank and file cant be hit. So what am I missing? There would need to be a rule in the main rulebook which says that after all models in the unit are dead that the character takes a hit. But the only thing I found was the second rule I mentioned. I know its rather rules lawyerish but I could not find a rule which would kill the character so I let my opponent place it an inch away. |

The spell effectively has two different effects. The first is if you roll less than the number of enemies. In that event it just kills that many, allocated as per shooting. If you roll equal to or more than the number of models in the unit, the damage is no longer 'as per shooting' instead it just eliminates the entire unit (characters and all) from existence and replaces it with clanrats. |

And yet...even for that effect, the FAQ says it distributes like shooting. What happens when a unit suffers more casualties than models and there's characters in it? The characters are unaffected. |
