Anyone noticed that now that the DW has the "Random Movement" special rule instead of "Rolling Doom" (page 4 of the FAQ) special rule it can no longer wheel/manuevre? You have to point it in the direction and go in a straight line. The portion of the Skaven Army Book that would have allowed us to (override rnaomd move rules and to) continue to weave and turn was housed within the now cut "rolling doom" section. Unless they correct this (not to imply that they will, because they probably won't), the doomwheel is nothing more than an abomination that stinks in combat but shoots. --Cap |

That seems to be the general consensus. Anyone else getting annoyed that we got to enjoy our 7th edition book for only a few short months and all the cool things that we ran out and spend money and time on for our armies are going to be sitting on the shelf now collecting dust?

I've had my doomwheel since 5th edition ('97). It got written out of the army in 6th edition ('00), and sat in storage rarely seeing sunlight. Finally it manages to roll it's way back into the list 9 years later ('09) and they write it into obscurity again by making it much less valuable as a rare selection 7 months later ('10). --Cap |

Yep, that mirrors my story exactly, except that when I took it out of storage for 7th edition I added a chariot base to it and spent a whole week of evenings flocking the base with rocks and grass and little rats running all over the place from the plague monk sprues. What a waste of effort! At least I got to use it a couple times, but overall I am not very happy with the situation. Really glad I never shelled out for the new plastic kit, even though I think it's a gorgeous model.

Dunno if the DW will cut it in a competative list anymore, due to lack of manouverability (as I think I said first page in this thread), it really is quite useful against big stuff such as stegadons still (I suppose, haven't playtested 8th yet, as the mail in Sweden appears to be doodoo pardon my french). But, the major thing about it for me is that it's such a great model, and I think it's a fun enough thing for 150 points to take it in a friendly list.

I was playing "book monkey" to a game last night where the table edge became an obscure subject. Here is the scenario I was over seeing. Lizards v Warriors. a Flying Daemon Prince was right next to the table edge roughly 3.5" away. The Skink Priest had LoS and the Lore of heavens spell that does a Pushback effect on any unit. Could he have used the spell to Knock the DP off the board therefor killing him outright? Or would he leave the board and come back in the owning players turn. It was just a question I asked when I noticed the positioning. none of us could say otherwise what would happen. Could it mean he is passing through Dangerous terrain and therefor have to take dmg for being a flying unit in dangerous terrain? There will have to be a FAQ at some point. Also witnessing it myself. Lore of Life is so god dang brutal. Throne of vines + Flesh to Stone + the regen + regrowth = disgusting temple guard. |

Page 27 at the top right hand corner; Basically says only fleeing and pursuing troops can go off the board edge. So unless the spell specifically says it can bump a unit off the battlefield... I'd assume it'd knock him the 3.5" to the edge and he'd 'stop' before leaving the battlefield, with no problems or negatives.... unless he was pushed into some new terrain feature that causes damage etc. --Cap |

I guess it would be a good way for knocking wizards out of range of important units or pushing units that suffer penalties for moving through dangerous terrain into dangerous terrain. Or random deadly terrain. So much push spell movement shenanagins. |

im still going to stick two doomwheels in my army list because they are my best units to protect my flanks and also they are the only units in my army that can easily kill monsters and lone characters (for the moment. besides, i love clan skryre tech, its soooo much fun.

Doomwheels are still very good in 8th. Granted it is going to be harder to keep them out of combat (with units with static CR that is) for its big loss of manouverability. Still the lightning and the autohits are very dangerous. I love blasting the Salas and Razors out of their forest and then seeing how the Lizards scramble to charge it with cold ones or somethings similar to try to keep the Wheel at bay. |
